However, Samira still managed to get the pentakill with her ultimate. Ouch. That was probably just too much.
Yesterday on MeinMMO, we presented the new champion Samira and her skills. Even beforehand, it was known that she would become a really popular champion. She is designed for maximum coolness and spectacular kills. Apparently, they may have gone a bit overboard:

In League of Legends the new champion Samira went live. But just a few hours after the release, there was already a nerf via hotfix. She was “significantly too strong” on day one, as Riot Games admitted. We show on MeinMMO how strong Samira was and how the nerf works out.
In the last few months, there has been a lot of talk about the bot lane champ Samira:
- A leak got fans excited about her as early as August: The leak promised an exciting champion who is easy to play and spectacular in securing her kills.
- During the official presentation, Samira seemed like a character from “Devil May Cry”.
- Now she has finally gone live.
Many were looking forward to the new spectacular fun champion, but Samira turned out to be far too powerful.
This was the nerf: As Riot employee Mark “Scruffy” Yetter announced, Samira received a double nerf:
- Her base health points dropped from 600 to 530 – making her more fragile, especially at the start of a match.
- Her ultimate, “inferno Trigger” was significantly weakened from 100-300 damage and 600% bonus, dropped to 0.200 and only 500% bonus.
Yetter says about it (via twitter):
“We still pay very close attention to ensuring that new champs remain balanced over the long term. Sometimes we get lucky and hit the balance right at launch, but most of the time we need to make adjustments at least once. In our estimation and goals, Samira looked way too strong on day one, and therefore we are reacting quickly.”

Penta-Kill in a hopeless situation
This was the problem with Samira: She simply dealt too much damage and particularly her ultimate was too harsh.
Moreover, Samira has a skill that allows her to destroy enemy projectiles, making her a lethal whirlwind.
Although Samira’s win rate was only 48% (via leagueofgraphs), this can be misleading for new champs. Riot Games clearly saw the need for action.
A defensively strong champion who hits like a horse: That’s clearly a problem for the balance of LoL. Samira is intended to be an ADC, but she has also been played in other roles and succeeded there.
