Hwei is the newest champion in League of Legends and is mainly known for his 10 skills. He is incredibly difficult to learn, and that is reflected in a catastrophic win rate. However, this does not stop players from picking him frequently.
How is Hwei doing currently? Looking at the current statistics for Emerald and higher on U.GG, you can see that Hwei has the worst win rate in 3 positions: Support, Midlane, and ADC. As a Midlaner, he currently has a catastrophic win rate of 41.02%. After that, Azir comes in on the Midlane with 48.45%.
Interestingly, Hwei is also currently the most popular Midlaner with a pick rate of 11.8%. Sylas follows with a pick rate of 11.5%. The difference with Sylas is that he currently has a win rate of 51.11%, making him one of the best Midlaners. It seems that despite his poor performance, Hwei is still liked and played by players (as of 08.01.2024, U.GG).
Hwei is difficult but fun
Hwei is a difficult champion; learning the various combos is one thing, learning the right application for these skills and using them without issues is another. But that’s exactly where the fun lies.
With Hwei, you will be able to learn new things in countless matches. At the same time, you have many options in the laning phase and in fights that the opponent cannot always predict. Many people might also play Hwei to understand him as a match-up.
Many players also have a positive opinion about Hwei on Reddit. The user DarthLeon2 posted about Hwei and the community agrees that Hwei is a well-designed champion.
- DarthLeon2:
After playing 40 matches with Hwei, I can safely say that I consider him to be the most entertaining and best-designed mage that Riot has ever developed.
- okiedokieoats:
The champ is not for me, but I think he is a really cool addition to the game.
- Phkblaze95:
I really believe he is currently the most fun champion for me by far.
In the meantime, Riot has also presented us with the next champion. Whether he will be as popular remains questionable:

Despite his currently catastrophic performance, Hwei seems to be doing the most important thing right: he provides players with incredible fun. If he stays as he is, his win rate will increase with player experience. Next season, mage items will also be adjusted, which can significantly change his performance as well. The current state of Hwei suggests a course change that the LoL director announced some time ago: “Fun over fairness” – LoL director promises major changes for the future of the game
