In the Korean League of Legends league (LCK), the best players in the world compete. In the game between T1 and KT Rolster, the supporter Ryu “Keria” Min-seok used an extraordinary champion. He played Varus as support.
Who is Keria?
- Keria is one of the greatest talents ever seen in LoL. He was discovered at the age of 16 by coach cvMax at “Kingzone Dragon.” The controversial coach is known for having a knack for talent but is rough with his players: He allegedly once choked one of his players.
- Keria made his breakthrough in 2020 at DRX, which reached the Worlds. After the tournament, the highly talented team fell apart.
- Keria joined T1, the team of three-time world champion Faker. Things went mediocre in 2021 – in the middle of it, they even fired the coaches, but managed to reach the semifinals of the Worlds. However, in 2022, T1 made it to the finals.
What does Keria warn about? During the 2022 World Championship, there were many enchanters in the support role. However, the meta has changed, and currently, the role is shaped by many ranged champions. Champions like Ashe have been seen occasionally in that position, but Keria took it further and played Varus as support.
After the game against KT Rolster in spring 2023, Keria and Oner gave an interview. The question was raised about what advice Keria would give to players wanting to imitate his pick.
In the interview, the player smiled and warned players very emphatically. “You are not Keria. Your teammates are not from T1. Keep that in mind.”
What does this mean for you? As the best support player in League of Legends, Keria has the opportunity to try out unconventional play tactics. And even though his answer in the interview seems harsh, he makes a valid point. He regularly plays and trains his skills on various champions. His teammates are also among the best players in the world.
For this reason, you should carefully consider whether Varus as support is right for you. Your teammates in solo queue are usually not among the best players in the world. So keep Keria’s warning in mind when deciding which champion you want to play as a supporter the next time.
