Europe is currently struggling in League of Legends. The EU teams have not really performed well at the current Worlds. Only G2 has shown potential. The team of the biggest Twitch streamer from Europe now wants to compete too and is likely to bring in a prodigy from the USA.
Which team is it about? Three EU teams have made it to the Worlds 2024. Among them is MAD Lions KOI, a team that partly belongs to Ibai, the biggest Twitch streamer in Europe. However, the team is not really doing well.
At the Worlds 2024, the team was eliminated in the Swiss Stage without winning a match. However, they do not want to give up. In order to compete against the top teams from Europe, they want to grab a prodigy – and it just happens to be from the US region.
A young prodigy from Canada
Which player is it about? Jojopyun is a Canadian midlaner who played for Cloud9 until 2024. With Evil Geniuses, he even competed at the Worlds in 2022 and he holds the record as the youngest player to ever win the LCS. He is considered a young prodigy due to his great talent, although he has only been active as a professional LoL player since 2020.
As Dexerto reported, there were problems between Cloud9 and Jojopyun, leaving him currently without a team. For Mad Lions KOI, this actually fits pretty well, as they terminated their collaboration with midlaner Fresskowy after the poor Worlds performance.
According to sources from the esports site Sheep Esports, Jojopyun has even reached a verbal agreement with Mad Lions Koi to replace Fresskowy as a midlaner. Saint, OMON, and Kamiloo were also in talks.
The special thing about this is that with a potential deal, Jojopyun would be the first NA player to join the European league LEC in a starting roster. This has never happened in the history of League of Legends.
Whether he will really join the LEC has not been officially confirmed yet. An official announcement is likely to be seen in the next few weeks, as MAD Lions KOI will have to announce a replacement for Fresskowy.
The European region urgently needs a resurgence of new talent to keep up with China and South Korea in the long term. With such a player, at least fresh air would be brought to the league, as one of the biggest problems seems to be that good players do not have good opponents to develop further.
