In League of Legends there is a serious bug: Players can instantly respawn after dying. This nasty error completely ruined a professional match in the Japanese LoL league LJL on August 5. One of the losers of the match referred to it as “the worst game of my career.”
This is how the match played out until then: The Japanese team “Detonation Focus Me” practically decided the game after 15 minutes in a league match on August 5:
- They had an 8,000 gold lead over their opponents Sengoku Gaming
- The kill score was 9-1
- It was basically just a formality to decide the match in their favor
Problem with rune lets the dead come back to life instantly
What happened then? Due to a bug, the opponents’ jungler, Jang “Once” Se-young, was able to instantly respawn with his champ Poppy after dying.
In the video on Twitch, you can see that Poppy dies, but no respawn timer is displayed, and instead, she is jumping around in the base again:
This was clearly a bug in the game. It caused the officials to call for a match interruption, a “Chronobreak.”
What is a Chronobreak? If a bug occurs in LoL that affects a game, a Chronobreak can be activated. It interrupts the game, and both teams can resume the match exactly at that point. At least, that is the theory.
It’s unimaginable if such a bug had happened to the rage-monster Tyler1:
The game must be replayed – and the team that was actually defeated wins
What went wrong? Due to technical issues, the Chronobreak did not work. Instead, the game that Detonation Focus Me had almost won was canceled and replayed.
It took two hours before the new LoL game started.
Detonation Focus Me lost the rematch in 40 minutes.
“Worst game of the career” for players and viewers
This is how the losers are reacting: The midlaner of Detonation Focus Me, Yaharong, said on Twitter that even though it was just one of many games, he thought: “What if this happens in the 5th game of the Worlds finals?” For him, the error and the league’s handling of it raise doubts about the integrity of esports in League of Legends.
He said he would like to ask Riot Games: Can LoL esports survive this way?
The team wasn’t even told whether they would be allowed to play Poppy – they only mentioned that if the problem occurred again, they would discuss it again.
According to the mid-laner, the LoL match was the worst match of their lives for both the viewers at home and the players on-site.
The mid-laner criticized the league’s handling of the bug: If something like this happens, you can no longer speak of esports.
What kind of bug is this? The bug is related to the rune “Hexflash.” It is obviously a game-breaking bug, a serious error. The usage of Hexflash has therefore been banned in the European and North American LoL leagues.
