League of Legends is known for a difficult community. Although there are many reporting options and penalties in the form of bans and chat restrictions, Riot is constantly working on adjustments to make the game friendlier. In the future, trolls should be removed from the main mode.
What does Riot want to change? Riot plans to introduce a new preliminary ban in ranked games in the coming months. If a player stands out negatively in ranked matches, they will be banned from further ranked matches. To lift the ban, the player must play in other modes without standing out negatively.
Riot describes examples of negative behavior as follows:
- AFK behavior in multiple matches
- Chat abuse
- Feeding and thereby assisting the opponent
If a player who is no longer allowed to play ranked also stands out negatively in other game modes, they will receive bans and may not be able to play any modes in League of Legends for a certain period of time. These penalties are in addition to other penalties such as chat restrictions.

Previous adjustments pay off
What has Riot done in the past against toxic players? In the same developer post on behavioral systems, Riot also talks about the successes of the recent changes in this area.
Riot mentions the following examples of successful changes:
- Automatic muting: The chat detects disruptive messages and automatically mutes the player for all.
- The possibility to report people for negative behavior in the match itself and also afterward.
- A better text evaluation in the game, allowing action against 15 times more disruptive texts than before.
- Group chat: a dedicated chat in the game for groups without added team members.
- The time between violation and penalty has been reduced.
- All players who leave a game or do not actively participate now receive a penalty.
According to Riot, these adjustments are proving successful and lead to a significant decrease in disruptive behaviors.
Riot also wants to improve another area for beginners. The Co-op vs. AI
mode is set to become better and, above all, less stressful.
