22-year-old Luka “Perkz” Perković is regarded as one of the best European players in League of Legends. However, the mid laner earns his money in the USA: There are now issues with the US league of LoL, the LCS.
This is the situation regarding Perkz:
- Perkz has won the European LoL league 9 times and is considered one of the best players Europe has ever produced. Before the season, however, he moved to the USA, to Cloud9. Allegedly, the US team paid several million US dollars for him.
- Perkz recently underwent LASIK eye surgery and could no longer play LoL properly on stage: The bright light was difficult for him – as his eyes suddenly became sensitive. The US league refused for weeks to dim the lights to help him.
- He is now explaining how long it took to get permission just to wear a cap.
“Finally, I am free”
This is what Perkz says: On stage after a LoL match, Perkz explained how happy he is to finally be allowed to wear a cap. He found it hard to adapt to playing on stage: the lights are very bright and his eyes sensitive after surgery.
Riot did not want to grant him the favor of dimming the lights in the last 3 weeks. But now he has a certificate and can finally wear a cap. He feels wonderful and completely unleashed now.
The last weeks he felt insecure on stage, but now he can “smurf” every game and is finally free.
On stage, he sounds quite friendly and approachable, but in a now-deleted tweet, he called the league’s behavior “really embarrassing,” that he had to bring a certificate just to be allowed to play with a cap.
In Europe or internationally, he never had such problems.
This is how the league reacts: The head of the league seems to find the situation embarrassing. He says: The light has actually been the same everywhere since 2012, which is why they became complacent. Perkz’s complaint also took a long time to reach the right places.
They apologize to Perkz for this issue.
