Over the weekend, from March 18th to March 20th, a lot of players received a message when logging into the popular MOBA League of Legends that their account had been permanently banned. The ban caused slight panic in front of the home PC. Riot Games has now commented on the “mass bans” and somehow seems at a loss.

- On Friday, one of the most important E-sports journalists for LoL, Jacob Wolf, reported: His account was permanently banned. He is very careful to be the best and friendliest player he can possibly be. After all, his job depends on the game. He can’t explain it at all (via twitter).
- In the comments, it became clear that many other players feel the same way: Their accounts have also been banned without them having done anything wrong.
- The support from Riot Games was flooded with inquiries about the bans. At first, they brusquely dismissed the questions, but then the tone changed.

The support from Riot Games received tweets from angry users in various languages who contacted Riot saying their account in LoL had been permanently banned over the entire weekend.
Initially, Riot Games consistently stated: They could not comment on the bans. They would not discuss any bans in support. That was not their issue.
Messages about the permanent ban were apparently a “system error” at Riot
However, in the night from Sunday to Monday, the developers’ response changed: According to Riot Games, a message was “erroneously” published stating that the account of players was permanently banned. However, this was just a “glitch”.
Hello! Thank you for contacting us. I understand that it must be very confusing that you suddenly see the ban message for your account. It could just be an optical issue. Try logging in again, and if you’re still banned, please submit a ticket.
Additionally, it is stated: One of Riot’s systems apparently displayed this message due to an error at Riot.
What can you do about the permanent ban in LoL? On reddit, there is now talk of a “ban glitch” – a visual error without real consequences.
A YouTuber has also dealt with the topic. The YouTuber Exil says:
- Those who have been banned should just keep logging in until it works
- Those who continue to have problems should check their account to see if there really is a ban against them (via support-lol)
Some players apparently had quite a panic over the weekend thinking they would have to give up their favorite game. Understandable: Many players have invested a lot of money and time into their account in LoL.
