The European League of Legends team G2 Esports hinted at a role swap between two players on Twitter. Fans are now unsure whether this is a joke or meant seriously.
What is happening at G2 Esports? In a video on Twitter, you can see the two players Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther and Luka “Perkz” Perkovic from G2 Esports. They talk about the time after the Worlds and how the Allstar event went.
After that, they sign up together for a game, with Perkz registering for the midlane and Caps for the botlane. After a short discussion, both enter these roles.
The video then ends with a winking smiley.
Wait, are @G2Caps and @G2Perkz really doing this? ?

Sorry @CarlosR, looks like you’ll have to play mid another year pic.twitter.com/IMvL3p6vXR
Why is this special? Actually, both Caps and Perkz are “trained” midlaners:
- Perkz has been playing on the midlane for G2 Esports since 2015
- Caps was the midlaner at rival Fnatic from 2016 to 2018
But to be able to compete internationally with other teams, the two players came together, although they had been rivals for a long time.
Perkz even gave up his position and moved to the botlane. Such a switch is quite rare among professional players.
Now the video hints that the two players might again make a role swap and Caps will switch to the botlane.
Are both players really swapping roles?
How did people react to the video? Below the tweet and on reddit, there was much discussion about the short video. So far, fans are still unsure whether the swap is really happening or if the team is just having fun.
In response to a direct question on Twitter about whether the swap is “real”, the G2 Esports account replied with “maybe”.
After the loss in the final against FunPlus Phoenix, it is quite possible that the team is looking for new impulses, especially since the Chinese team has further strengthened:
What speaks for the role swap? Perkz himself is a midlaner. He mentioned in a video that he would only leave the midlane for two players: for Faker and for Caps. It’s quite possible that he will now get his position back.
Further fueling the swap rumor is Jankos, another player from G2 Esports. He explained the situation in his livestream:
Caps, who previously played midlane for Fnatic, is said to be eager to face his former teammate Rekkles directly. They would be opposing each other in the botlane during the LEC.
Some fans are now of the opinion that the role swap must be real since Jankos is the G2 Esports player who jokes the least. User Prottek writes:
- “For those who don’t follow Jankos – he is an extremely professional, serious person and also a streamer. This confirms that the role swap is one hundred percent certain, as does the fact that Caps only does this to prove his strength.”

What speaks against the role swap? The entire G2 Esports team is known for causing a lot of mischief and “trolling” those around them. Even during the World Championship, the players were still joking around.
It’s quite fitting for G2 Esports to not take such an announcement seriously. However, some voices on reddit at least see the option that the team is training for the role switch on the side, to then only implement it against Fnatic.
Whether this really happens will be seen at the start of the LEC on January 24.
What do you think? Is the role swap really happening?
