With a massive update featuring many wizards, new dragons, and modified or new items, League of Legends is set to be improved by the middle of the year.
Shortly after the rework of the marksmen, the developers at Riot Games realized that they wanted to next take on the wizards in League of Legends to update them to fit the current game. It soon became clear which heroes definitely needed a rework. The main focus was on reworking the wizards who are not particularly mobile.
Magic in the Mid-Season of League of Legends
The planned updates for the mages are now confirmed. They are set to be implemented by the middle of the year. The 6 wizards on the list will receive significant updates. However, many other wizards in League of Legends will receive minor changes.
Malzahar: He retains his damage over time spell “Malefic Visions” (E), but he can now be immune to crowd control effects through a new passive ability. Additionally, he now controls when a Voidling is summoned.
Brand: His passive ability is now stackable and causes a powerful explosion on all affected targets at 3 stacks. Thus, he is even stronger in team fights than before, but not as effective against single targets.
Vladimir: This champion, known for his sustainability, will continue to focus on endurance. His “Transfusion” (E) now charges with his maximum health to increase the damage of this ability. He seems to be becoming more reliant on his maximum health.
Zyra: With a new passive ability, seeds automatically appear around Zyra that last for a long time. Although she can still distribute seeds with her “Entangle” (W), the number of seeds that can be active at the same time is significantly increased.
Vel’Koz: With his “Life Form Disintegration Ray” (R), Vel’Koz can now deal very high, absolute damage to enemies. He still stands out as a wizard who deals damage from a distance with high range.
Cassiopeia: The snake sorceress will introduce a brand new debuff in League of Legends called “Grounded.” This prevents the use of jumps, catching Thresh’s lantern, and even using Flash. Additionally, she gains passive movement speed because snakes don’t wear boots!
The changes to the other spells are also noteworthy. For example, Ziggs can now execute towers when they have less than a certain amount of health. If Xerath hits enemy champions with his “Rain of Anguish” (R), he gains up to a certain maximum additional stacks of this ability.

The Wizard Items in LoL are also being Reworked
Many item recipes will be reworked, which will of course affect the various bonuses of these items. For example, Morellonomicon and the Rod of Ages no longer provide mana regeneration. The “Will of the Ancients” will even be completely removed from League of Legends, making way for two brand new items in LoL. Particularly the typical “Must Have” items for some wizards (such as Zhonya’s Hourglass or Rod of Ages) have been closely examined by the developers and their recipes adjusted.
New Dragons in LoL
No, this is not about the removed relatives of Aurelion Sol, but about new elemental dragons that are meant to spice up the gameplay, especially at the start and middle of the game. Killing these dragons grants bonuses such as increased damage to epic monsters and towers or enhanced movement speed outside of fights, allowing faster movement across the map. The special thing about these new dragons is that their bonuses are cumulative, and a double bonus against towers can quickly decide games.
Until the 35th minute, it is random which elemental dragon will appear. However, both teams receive a notification after killing the first dragon informing which element the next dragon will have. After the 35th minute, all future dragons will be an Elder Dragon. This dragon is much stronger than the elemental dragons and grants more power in the form of a dot along with additional enhancements.
