League of Legends is planning a comprehensive change for the champion Rell with the upcoming patch 14.7. Riot Games has decided to remove Rell from the jungle.
This is what it’s about:
- About a year ago, Riot Games tried to establish the support champion
Rell
in the jungle. However, this experiment apparently turned out to be a flop. - Matt Leung-Harrison, one of the main developers of LoL, explains on X:
Rell is really strong only for professional players.
- For most casual players, however, she did not bring the desired successes.
Rell is banned from the jungle
Despite her popularity among professional players, Rell was rarely played in ranked matches. This suggests that she did not perform as well for the general player base as the development team initially hoped.
Matt Leung-Harrison writes:
Similar to Blitzcrank, we’re glad to have conducted this experiment, but supporting her in a role [as a supporter] is the way we will continue to maintain her.

What are the reasons? Among professionals, Rell would be strong, but among casual players, she would have a low win rate in the jungle – 47.94% across all ranks according to u.gg.
If you also look at Rell’s pick rate in the jungle across all ranks, a rate of 0.4% is shown. Even as a supporter, she is not played that frequently with a pick rate of 2.7%.
In professional games, however, she would dominate – as the T1 support player Keria has already proven. She was frequently played by pro players, whether in LCK, LCS, or LEC. Especially, she was often picked as a jungler. Her ability to deal almost triple damage to jungle mobs with her Q made her particularly effective.
This is what is planned for Rell now:
- All monster modes will be removed from Rell.
- Magic resistance will be reduced.
How does the community react? The decision to remove Rell from the jungle has sparked some discussions in the LoL community. Some players express disappointment.

Removing Rell from the jungle is a bad solution to this problem.[…]
- RelliBean writes:
You don’t have to take Rell out of the jungle. It’s nice to try and learn a second role when your champion can operate in it.[…]
- 12Sorte writes:
Rell deserves to be a jungler. Therefore it’s better to nerf than to kill.
When will the change come? Riot Games plans to introduce this change with the next patch (14.7). The patch is scheduled for April 3rd, 2024. There will also be other significant adjustments, including the major rework of Skarner: The currently least popular champion will finally be improved: ‘Like a damn horror movie monster.’
