In every patch of League of Legends, there are new skins. Some of them are even showcased in trailers. This is also the case in the new trailer for the Lunar Revel event. However, the skins themselves do not seem to interest the players. The comments are full of users complaining that the Hextech chests should make a return.
What kind of trailer is this? As part of the New Year celebration of the Chinese calendar, Riot is also celebrating the event in LoL. Every year, there are skins that appear in the style of the Lunar Revel event. This year’s skins for the year of the snake were presented by Riot in a trailer (via YouTube). The following skins will be released:
- Mythmaker Cassiopeia
- Mythmaker Jarvan IV
- Mythmaker Nami
- Mythmaker Jhin
Additionally, there will be skins themed around Dumblings
for the champions Seraphine, Amumu, and Syndra. However, the skins seem to be quite irrelevant to the community at the moment. Among the comments of the YouTube video, there is only one topic: Hextech chests.
You can watch the mentioned trailer here:
The community wants their free chests back
What is the community criticizing? With Season 1 of 2025 came a lot of changes. In the process, the free Hextech chests, which could be earned, were removed, and now they are only available for purchase.
This currently causes great discontent among the LoL community. Players want the free chests back. A large part of the community seems to agree, as the comments under the video revolve around one topic: Hextech chests.
Among the more than 1800 YouTube comments, there are virtually only remarks about the Hextech chests. When skins or the trailer are mentioned, it is only to ironically refer to the chests.
- @aidikei ironically writes:
I understand, the Hextech chest has become the replay system of League of Legends.
- @doctordank7804 just wants to get rid of his keys:
You better bring back all Hextech chests, I have 40 keys….
- @EaringLightsince1994 even praises the trailer but still wants the chests back:
Cool cinematic, but will you reintroduce the Hextech chests?
A large part of the community seems to miss the Hextech chest a lot. It seems almost impossible to find a comment that does not revolve around the subject.
What does Riot say about the issue? So far, Riot has not commented on the topic. There is often criticism from the community regarding skins, but the current extent seems to be one of the largest. Riot has commented on another innovation, though: Change in LoL makes it harder to unlock new champions – Riot says it “should not get harder”
