Wrong item decisions exist in every division of League of Legends and even the professional LoL players are sometimes not quite sure. This was shown in the game between G2 Esports and DWG KIA when Heo “ShowMaker” Su built the Morellonomicon on Azir.
What kind of items are we talking about exactly? It primarily concerns items with the effect of “Grievous Wounds”. This leads to a reduction of the healing of opponents affected by the effect.
The “Morellonomicon” or “Morellos” is an item for champions who focus on health and ability power. The effect “Grievous Wounds” reduces champions’ healing by 25% fundamentally. This increases to 40% healing reduction when the opponent falls below 50% health.
However, it only matters for the healing that happens in the next 4 seconds after the opponent receives magic damage. This effect can be extended by an additional 4 seconds if the item “Liandry’s Anguish” has been purchased.
But how did this effect influence the game?
For the Morellonomicon there is a shop function that was introduced specifically for a player.
Why is the item still purchased by the professionals?
What did the item aim against G2? In the first game of Group B between G2 Esports and DWG KIA, the mid-laner of DWG chose the Morellonomicon. Azir was facing Seraphine, who is supposed to ensure longer survival in fights with healing, CC, and poke damage.
For this game, the Morellonomicon only proved to be limitedly beneficial for Azir. The purchase meant that Seraphine could not play as aggressively as she would have wanted. Showmaker was already leading with 3/0/3 at that time. This advantage could have been exploited even more by Showmaker with another item, such as the “Shadowflame”.

Here you can see when the Morellonomicon’s stats kicked in. In the first 6 minutes that Showmaker had the item, only 4 health points of healing were reduced. That’s less than a minion’s attack on the lane.
By the end of the game, a total of 890 healing was reduced. That is quite low for a game lasting 32 minutes.
Is the item suitable for your ranked games? The Morellonomicon is a helpful item when it comes to significantly reducing healing. It refers to healing in combat. This can be especially true for champions like Soraka, Aatrox, Sylas, or Olaf, who heal a lot during the fight.
If the healing occurs after the fight, the item’s effect won’t help you much. It takes up an inventory slot and delays your stronger phase of the game. Even “LS” has commented on the item, reiterating what he has always said about the Morellonomicon, namely that the item has significantly better alternatives.
Moreover, the additional effect of the Morellonomicon only takes effect when the opponent falls below 50% health. This effect is described as “a joke” by LS.
If you are considering purchasing the item, you should first ask yourself how much healing the opponents have in the fight. Or is there perhaps a better item that amplifies your damage in the early game phases?
