The Misfits team has signed 22-year-old Swede Carl Felix “MagiFelix” Boström for League of Legends. He will serve as a substitute player for all 5 roles in LoL in case something goes wrong with Team 1 or 2. MagiFelix is considered an absolute expert in LoL, as he has achieved the highest rank, Challenger, in every position. Just a few weeks ago, he dominated Europe’s SoloQ as a midlaner. However, his professional career has not been smooth so far.
This is the news from Misfits: The Berlin-based LoL team Misfits Gaming currently stands at a solid 10-5 in 3rd place in the European LEC league. Now they are treating themselves. Before the playoffs, they recruit the teamless and unlucky LoL star MagiFelix and write (via twitter):
With the playoffs around the corner, we decided to sign a substitute player for several roles in case of an emergency in the LEC or LFL.
And you know there is only one person who can do this job (besides Tyler1).
Welcome to Misfits, Magifelix!
MagiFelix reached the highest rank in all 5 roles in SoloQ
What is special about the player? Normally, a LoL player can only play one role. However, MagiFelix achieved the highest rank, “Challenger”, in all 5 roles in League of Legends in 2020.
This is an incredible achievement that earned the Swede the nickname “SoloQ-God” in 2020. Since then, many have kept an eye on MagiFelix.
Becoming Challenger in all 5 roles has only succeeded for him and the Twitch streamer Tyler1, who achieved the same feat live on stream. Tyler1 took 2 years and more than 6,000 games to do it.
MagiFelix – “SoloQ-God” without a pro contract
Why is the player considered cursed? Normally, such an incredible LoL player should have been playing in the pro league for 4 years or at least been part of an academy team. However, MagiFelix has had a difficult and mixed professional career so far.
For years, he was in Fnatic’s academy team but never made it to the professional roster. Fans speculated from the outside that he had nerves issues or simply couldn’t communicate well.
MagiFelix wins game alone – Still gets kicked from pro team
In February 2021, he got his chance: The team, Astralis, the weakest team in the LEC, signed MagiFelix as a midlaner.
In this role, he could even shine with the rather dismal team and decisively win a match with a crazy backdoor play on his own.
Nevertheless, Astralis decided to let go of MagiFelix after a year and did not extend his contract. It was said that MagiFelix did not fit into the strategy (via reddit), which no one could understand from the outside. It was suspected that Astralis was pursuing a strict austerity policy.
The “backdoor play” was achieved by MagiFelix in a match against Misfits. They are now signing him as a pro:
MagiFelix dominates SoloQ, earns a new chance in 2022
Why does MagiFelix get another chance? A few weeks ago, MagiFelix climbed back to the top of the EU West server and achieved 1920 LP, a strong number. He was 300 points ahead of the second player (via dotesports).
Misfits seems to be bringing him in as a “safety net” in case anything happens to one of their 10 players in Team 1 or 2.
Why pro teams seem to be handling such a apparently talented player with kid gloves remains a mystery that one can only speculate about. Perhaps the Swede is really too much of a “one-man-show” to function in a pro team. Or he is truly cursed.
An 18-year-old is considered a “monster” and “genius” in LoL – while playing the most thankless role
