In League of Legends, players thought they had clearly recognized that two Chinese professional players cheated in a match of the Polish LoL league. However, on January 31, Riot Games decided that the evidence was insufficient for a punishment. This decision has few supporters and has drawn much criticism.
What decision did Riot Games make?
- In a match of the Polish Ultraliga between Iron Wolves and ESCA Gaming, 2 Chinese professionals from Iron Wolves began to play very poorly starting from the 15th minute. They allowed themselves to be “caught,” only gave token hits in fights, and played poorly.
- On reddit, they were accused of deliberately sabotaging the game so that their team would still lose, even though they were far ahead at the time: This is called “win-trading.” Many examples of blatant “poor play” were highlighted.
- The league subsequently suspended the professionals for 2 games – the maximum penalty it could impose without Riot’s investigation.
However, Riot Games decided on January 31 (via twitter): There was not enough evidence. The players walk away without any further punishment.
“Threatens the Integrity of E-Sports”
This is the discussion: People on Twitter are truly outraged by Riot Games’ decision.
Because everyone has seen the clips showing how the two Chinese players acted. Especially the clip of mid laner Odin on Jayce half-heartedly fighting the inhibitor (via YouTube) is seen by many players as clear evidence that something was not right.
It is then said in the comments:
- Riot must be blind. What else could “win-trading” be? Is only Disco-Nunu recognized as clear win-trading? In “Disco Nunu”, you select the champ Nunu in LoL and consistently run to death with some effects.
- Others say: There were 50 minutes of sufficient evidence.
- A third concludes: This also explains why “win-trading” is so widespread in high Elo areas. Riot simply does nothing.
One user writes bitterly: With this decision, the integrity is lost.
What was behind the strange appearance?
Are there also opposing voices? That the two played extremely poorly is generally accepted. In a thread on reddit, users express the possibility that the players might have had other reasons for playing so badly:
- Maybe after 15 minutes they were so far ahead that they started trolling
- Or they were angry at team mates and wanted to get back at them somehow
But here too, some speculate that the players could have deliberately manipulated the match to win a sports bet in some form.
