The MOBA Wild Rift seems simple at first glance, but offers many strategic and complex elements. To help new players find their way, some LoL players have published tips and tricks on reddit. We have summarized the most important ones for you.
What is this about? Wild Rift has brought many new players to League of Legends, and although there are some differences between the mobile and the PC version, many tips can be applied in both games.
Therefore, some experienced LoL players have published general tips and assistance. These include things like:
- The different roles in the game
- Objectives on the map
- Items for the champions
- The team play
The practical part is that most tips also work for the PC version. They come from reddit users IronPumba and Rekzorm.
Solo and Duo Lanes
What is important? The biggest problem that many players currently see in Wild Rift is the lack of taking the right roles in the game. There are 5 different ones:
- Top lane – also called Baron lane in Wild Rift
- Mid lane
- Bot lane – also called Dragon lane
- Support
- Jungler
We presented the 5 roles in more detail in this guide.
Even in champion selection, these positions are often not taken into account because every player would rather play champions they like. However, it is often more sensible to step back and fill a missing position rather than ending up with 3 AD carries or 3 mid laners.
Therefore, try to be proficient with a champion in each position before starting ranked games.
At the start of the game, it is also important that one of the two teams plays on a mirrored map. If this is the case for your team, you will see arrows at the beginning pointing to the solo and duo lane.
- If you play the top laner, you go to the solo lane
- Carry and support always go to the duo lane.
Only the duo lane is occupied by two players. The mid lane, the solo lane, and the jungle are each managed by one player.
Why is that? When a minion dies, it gives experience points to nearby champions. However, if two or more champions from one team are there, the experience is shared among them. This slows down your ability to learn new skills and also puts you at a disadvantage in stats. Each level-up brings additional health and mana, for example.
Therefore, one tries to play as solo as possible.
However, the AD carry is the weakest role at the start of a game but incredibly strong at the end. Therefore, they have a support by their side to help them in the endgame. As a support, it is important that you do not “steal” minions by killing them (getting the so-called “last hit”).
The Summoner Spells
What spells are there? Wild Rift offers you 7 summoner spells:
- Flash – A short teleport
- Ghost – Temporarily makes you run faster
- Heal – Heals a bit and makes you run 1 second faster
- Barrier – Creates a shield with extra health points for 2 seconds
- Exhaust – Weakens the opponent’s damage and speed
- Ignite – Burns the opponent and deals damage over 5 seconds
- Smite – Deals damage to monsters and later also to champions
Which one should you choose? Almost every champion uses Flash as the first of the two summoner spells. The ability is strong for escaping from the enemy or for chasing them.
The situation is a bit different for the second ability:
- AD carries usually use Heal or Barrier to survive. If you play aggressively, Ignite is also possible.
- Mid laners usually rely on Ignite to win the 1v1
- Supports mostly use Exhaust to protect their own AD carry or Ignite to finish off enemies. Many supports currently rely on Heal in Wild Rift, which is not very effective. The healing for allies is rather low.
- For top laners, Ignite is also a good choice. Some champions also benefit from Ghost, such as melee champions like Nasus. Exhaust can also help in winning the 1v1.
- Junglers, on the other hand, always use Smite as their second summoner spell. This is important at the beginning to kill jungle creatures and later for the bigger opponents Dragon and Baron. With the “True Damage,” Smite deals exactly the damage stated in the description. This also allows you to steal larger jungle creatures when your opponents are attacking them. You just need to hit Smite at the right moment.
What it’s really about in a round of Wild Rift
Many players focus on killing other players in Wild Rift. However, this is not as crucial for the course of the game. It is more important to farm gold and control objectives on the map.
How do you farm gold? The most effective method is to “last hit” minions. For every dead minion, you earn gold. If you execute the killing blow yourself, you get about four times the gold.
So who gives the killing blow to all enemy minions while the opponent does not gets a huge advantage in gold and can buy more items later. Whoever has more items usually wins the fights and generally the game.
While there is also gold for killing enemy players, even if that succeeds, you can still be at a disadvantage if the opponent has achieved more last hits.
If you want to become really good, you will gradually learn the so-called wave management. This allows you to control whether you let your minions run into the enemy tower, making it harder for the enemy to land their last hits. Alternatively, you can ensure that your minions are always positioned further back than the enemies’. This forces the enemy to move further away from their tower and risks getting killed by you or your jungler. An example of how this works is shown in this video:
The Towers: Many players also underestimate the objectives on the map. Especially the towers are important as they bring gold, but above all visibility and safety on the map. You can retreat to towers to be better protected from enemies. Without this protection, you have to play more defensively or risk being killed unexpectedly.
Furthermore, towers must be destroyed to access the enemy base. Especially the third tower of each lane plays a role. Once this is defeated, more minions will spawn on the lane for you, causing your minions to defeat the enemies repeatedly and repeatedly invade the enemy’s base.
Baron, Herald, and Dragon: Three interesting creatures are waiting for you in the river:
- The Herald occupies the place of the Baron until minute 10. When it is defeated, you can summon it for yourself. Afterwards, it attempts to destroy enemy towers. You should attack the Herald with at least 2 players.
- The Dragon gives your team gold and buffs and should be attacked with at least 3 players. Once several of them are defeated, an Ancestor Dragon appears, making your team even stronger during the kill.
- The Baron appears after minute 10 and replaces the Herald. It should always be attacked with as many players as possible and only when you know where your opponents are (preferably, most of them are dead). It temporarily grants you a buff that strengthens minions around you and allows you to return to base more quickly.
Use the recommended items
If you do not want to intensively engage with the item system of Wild Rift, you can trust the suggested items from Riot Games. In many cases, the items are the best, only situationally it might sometimes be wiser to build them in a different order.
Especially do not underestimate the shoes and the active items that result from them. An invulnerability effect like that of Zhonya’s Hourglass or escaping from a stun with Mercury is extremely helpful.
Always ensure “Vision” on the map
We have already shared this tip with you, but it keeps coming up as a topic. At the start, every player has an item that can be placed and that grants visibility. With this, you protect yourself from surprise attacks but also help your team to see where and how enemies are moving.
It is best to place these wards in bushes and at spots where enemies often walk.

It is also important that you work intensively with the map. You should constantly keep an eye on it to see if you are being attacked unexpectedly, if your enemies are attacking one of the jungle creatures or if an ally needs help. The minimap is extremely important in both LoL games.
Do not fight alone
LoL is a team game, and you should keep this in mind at all times. So try not to win alone and definitely do not charge into the entire enemy team alone hoping for a kill.
You are most valuable when you move as a team and take out enemies together.
Also use the pings that are available to you on the right side of the game. By holding down a button, a map appears, allowing you to trigger a ping at any location. This way, you can communicate with allies without chat and without a lot of effort.
