In League of Legends , a developer error has apparently caused 2 items to be revealed too early, which offer the Summoner Spell “Teleport” and the ultimate of the champion “Shen” in a modified form as usable effects. This would completely change the game and open up new possibilities.
What are these 2 items? Riot Games is currently preparing the preseason 2023 in LoL, which is always the time when the MOBA undergoes the biggest changes of the year.
Players have browsed the new items in the shop on the test server, PBE, and found 2 new secret items they thought might go live soon:
- The “Boots of Teleportation” cost 1200 gold and allow players to teleport to a friendly structure, ward, champion, or minion every 4 minutes.
- The item “Sword in the Stone” for 3400 gold would allow players to teleport a friendly champion. Upon appearing, it would grant friendly players a powerful shield.
Why would the items change the game so much? Players in LoL can choose 2 summoner spells, which are usually Flash and Teleport for top lane and mid lane:
- Flash is used to make a short jump and is often crucial to either achieve a kill or escape certain death. A flash is practically “worth half a death” because players who have lost their flash are often the focus of the next attack.
- Teleport is essential for either returning to the lane from the base, launching surprise attacks on the enemy base, or preparing a gank in another lane.
If players could use teleport through the boots, they would be able to save the spell and take an alternative instead. This would be particularly attractive for top laners who often feel like they are isolated on the top lane, stuck like on an island for 20 minutes.
The weapon, in turn, resembles the effect of the ultimate of the champion Shen and would be an extremely strong cooldown for team fights, potentially deciding matches single-handedly.
Sorry Amigos – must have slipped into the build somehow
This is what Riot Games says: Developer Riot Phlox comments on the boots on Twitter:
“Sorry amigos, this must have slipped into the build somehow, I guess. We currently have no plans to bring the boots; that was an early attempt for top lane stuff.”
The Riot dev, however, leaves a backdoor open: “Unless…” and makes strange gestures.
Regarding the weapon, there’s also a rejection: “That’s not coming either *laughs his ass off*. But it’s a sick item.”
In the comments, users say: Your dopamine level just shot up to 100 and then back to 0. The items sound quite exciting.
Sometimes innovations from Riot Games just go wrong:
Riot once introduced a new summoner spell to LoL – removed it after 2 weeks because it was too bad
