There was a strange bug in LoL. Invitations to an event in London were mistakenly sent out, meant only for selected players of the League of Legends. However, “regular gamers” were chosen and invited to this private party. Someone who reported this on reddit hit the nail on the head with their post.
What a selection was that? Players received a message in the League of Legends client displayed on the homepage with the title “You are one of 500.” Whoever followed the link ended up on this page:
Riot Games is apparently planning a big event for the 10th anniversary and wants to celebrate it. They have organized a private party in London and invited players “exclusively”:
- Players will arrive at this event on October 15
- On October 16, the celebration will take place – with drinks and plenty of food
- And on October 17, it’s going home
The special thing is that Riot Games will cover all incurred costs, including travel by train, food, and two nights in a London hotel – everything is great.
The invitation states that players only need to register and be over 18.
Who is the invitation aimed at? This is not clear from the letter. It only states that the party is “exclusive”, not open to the public, and intended only for a group of players they wanted to invite for what they have done for League of Legends:
- It could have been possible that Riot was truly “randomly” selecting 500 LoL players.
- But it is much more likely that they are inviting special influencers, people who have made a name for themselves in the community in one way or another and are therefore handpicked
Reddit post leads to trip to London
This is what the lucky player did: The user Lassekassebasse opened a post on reddit stating that he was invited to London for the anniversary celebration. Something so joyful had never happened to him, although he couldn’t register at that moment.
However, from the comments of other users, Lassekassebasse quickly realized: I’m not that special. Because apparently, all kinds of people could see this invitation.
This is how Riot reacts: Riot Games eventually responded and said: That was a mistake. The invitation has now been fixed.
However, Lassekassebasse is the one who made many at Riot aware of the error with his post. Therefore, he will actually be invited to London for the 10th birthday. And all expenses will be covered.
Riot may offer the other players two Prestige Summoner Icons for the 10th anniversary.
