A player from the League of Legends Community has published a video on Twitter demonstrating how interesting Riot Games’ ban system is.
What is shown in the video? After Riot Games had already triggered panic last November because an internal issue banned innocent players, the next big spectacle around the ban system is now upon us.
The Twitter user “hawolt” had published a video showing how he permanently bans his own account using his own program.
In doing so, he points out that it is indeed possible to ban one’s own account for games that have never been played. He himself has only positive statistics on the account and assures that he did not use the chat in any of the games.
In the video, he logs into his LoL account, shows his statistics, and starts the program. Within just a few seconds, 1000 messages go through. He logs out and logs back in. At this start, his account is then permanently banned. If he wants to contest this, he should contact Riot Support.
League of Legends has become a gigantic game over the years. In the video, you can see how large:
What does the community think about it? The community and comments under the tweet from “hawolt” show both sides. On one hand, there are players who are quite glad to have been informed. For some of these players, the question arises whether they have now been rightfully banned or are victims of this program.
Mein-MMO user “Flay” clarified the situation: The player can only use this exploit if it is his own account. In a report for other players, actually played games are required to send a report to the ban system.
Riot Games has previously had phases where they banned several players to set an example. Recently, they cleaned up the Korean server and banned some players involved in illegal betting in ranked matches.
The other side of Twitter users pulls out their lists and asks if “hawolt” would also take jobs. Although this, as shown in the video, is not possible for any random player, some tweets are already painting a world where all LoL players are banned:
As “hawolt” explains in his post and in the comments, the video serves merely for educational purposes. He wanted to clarify that Riot has a significant problem with the ban system and the client.
He even tried to help another Twitter user and check why that person’s account was banned (via Twitter). Whether this attempt was successful is hard to say, as everything further took place in private messages.
What do you think about Riot Games’ ban system? Let us know in the comments.
