In League of Legends, the rumor mill is boiling: The successful LoL team G2 Esports is said to be reshuffling after an unsuccessful season. Toplaner Wunder and supporter Mikyx are reportedly up for sale. The German coach Fabian “Grabbz” Lohmann is also for sale. All three even have a price tag, the coach costs 10 times less than the supporter.
What’s going on at G2 Esports?
- G2 Esports was the dominant team in European LoL for years: From 2016 to 2020, the team became champions 8 times. After poaching the best player from rival Fnatic, Caps, in 2019, G2 Esports was the definitive power in Europe.
- But since 2021, things have gone wrong. Now they have even missed participation in the Worlds.
- After an unsuccessful year, the team’s CEO, Ocelote, announced, “It’s time to restructure the team.”
- Now sources say what this restructuring might look like: 3 members of the team are reportedly up for sale. Each of them even has a price tag.
Top-laner costs 2 million – the coach only 160,000 euros
The latest rumor says: According to sources from the e-sports site Dotesports, there are currently 3 contracts from G2 Esports on the market. This means: Other clubs can buy the players out of their contracts.
- Top-laner and WoW friend Wunder costs 2 million euros
- Supporter Mikyx is reportedly available for 1.5 million euros
- The contract of coach Grabbz is available for 160,000 euros
All three actually still have contracts until the end of 2022. The prices are a “bargain” by G2 standards – the bot-laner/mid-laner Perkz was reportedly sold to the USA for 5 million euros before the season.
Even the fate of bot-laner Rekkles seems still unclear. Because it seems G2 Esports has already shown serious interest in signing a new ADC.
Who could buy them? Interested buyers include Team Vitality and Team BDS, who will take Schalke 04’s place in the league.
Who is left then? If the rumor is true, then G2 Esports will restructure around young mid-laner Caps and veteran Jankos in the jungle.
The big rivals, Fnatic and Mad Lions, seem to have largely completed their teams. Especially Fnatic has seemingly found the franchise player of the future with young top-laner Adam. Such a player seems to be what G2 Esports is currently looking for.
