The new patch 7.8 in League of Legends could significantly revise Udyr. We will show you how Udyr is currently played on the PBE server.
Latest changes on the League of Legends test servers show that the developers are planning a revision of Udyr. This is not a complete rework that redesigns all of his abilities. The revision mainly focuses on how his Q and W abilities function and how much Mana his abilities cost.
Level-ups reduce mana costs in patch 7.8
Actually, Udyr’s ability mana costs decrease when he invests another skill point in an ability. For example, his Tiger Stance (Q) costs 47 Mana at rank one and only 44 Mana at rank two.
The latest changes on the PBE servers modify this system and make the costs dependent on champion level. Now, Tiger Stance costs 50 mana at all ranks initially. However, the mana costs for the stances decrease by 1 for each level-up. So after 5 level-ups, each of the abilities costs not 50 but 45 mana.
If these changes remain, each ability will become more efficient the higher your champion level is, regardless of which skill path or playstyle you prefer.
Rework of Tiger Stance in patch 7.8
Currently, the first normal attack in Tiger Stance (Q – Might of the Tiger) inflicts a damage-over-time effect (DoT) that deals 30/80/130/180/230 damage (+ attack damage scaling) over 2 seconds. Additionally, his attacks deal 15% attack damage.
The changes on the PBE servers are revising this form of Tiger Stance and removing the additional 15% damage. Furthermore, the DoT is now activated on every third attack but deals less damage at later levels. The special thing is that remaining DoT damage is now directly applied to the target when a new DoT is activated.
Example: Udyr attacks a target. The first attack triggers the DoT on a target and lasts for 2 seconds. During these 2 seconds, Udyr performs attacks 2, 3, and 4. Because the 4th attack (the third after the first hit) reapplies DoT to the target, the remaining DoT damage is instantly added.
With these changes, Udyr has strong burst potential and will become a more dangerous dueling opponent. In the jungle, the changes are noticeable in his clear speed at camps and particularly in single-target fights against the dragon or Baron.
Tiger Stance
- Q – Might of the Tiger
- Mana cost changed from 47/44/41/38/35 to 50 at all ranks*
- *New: The mana costs for Udyr’s stances decrease by 1 with each level up

- Effect Change
- The DoT effect is now triggered by every third attack (after the first attack)
- DoT base damage changed from 30/80/130/180/230 to 30/60/90/120/150
- New: If the DoT is applied to targets already affected by it, the remaining DoT damage is dealt immediately.
- Ongoing Effect: Udyr performs a tiger strike with his first normal attack and every third attack thereafter, dealing 30/60/90/120/150 (+ 120% to 160% total attack damage) physical damage over 2 seconds.
- If a target is already affected by the Tiger Strike, a new Tiger Strike will deal the remaining damage instantly.
- Activation: Increases attack speed by 30/40/50/60/70% for 5 seconds
Turtle Stance – More Health = More Healing?
In addition to the burst potential, Udyr is set to receive further changes. On the test servers, a rework of his Turtle Stance (W – Might of the Turtle) is being tested. With items, you should be able to extract more effectiveness from the ability, as it may soon scale with his maximum health on the live servers.
This change will give players who prefer a tank or bruiser playstyle more options for survival. Instead of life steal on every hit, the new effect will activate on the first hit and every third hit thereafter (similar mechanic to Tiger Stance).
Turtle Stance
- W – Might of the Turtle
- Mana cost changed from 47/44/41/38/35 to 50 at all ranks*
- *New: The mana costs for Udyr’s stances decrease by 1 with each level up
- Effect Change
- Ongoing Effect:
10/12/14/16/18% life stealUdyr’s first attack and every third attack thereafter heal him for 2.5% of his maximum health. Increases by 1% for each missing percent of his current health.
For the Bear and Phoenix Stance, only the mana costs have been adjusted as with Tiger and Turtle. There were no ability changes there.
As mentioned before, these are changes on the PBE servers that can be altered at any time. The patch notes presented are not necessarily the final result of Udyr’s rework.
Other changes in the jungle – Amumu with new passive and absolute damage
