In League of Legends there is a real cult formed around the 20-year-old South Korean Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon. The midlaner has managed to lead a team to the quarterfinals of the LoL Worlds 2021 almost single-handedly. He is considered an exceptional talent in the midlane. He is now moving to Gen G., one of the top 4 teams in the world. Fans are now welcoming him in the “Church of Chovy”.
What is so special about Chovy?
- Chovy is an outstanding talent in League of Legends. He was discovered in 2018 by the controversial but brilliant coach, cvMax, and was one of the key figures behind the meteoric rise of Griffin. Chovy is known for being able to play “just about everything” in the midlane, from aggressive assassins to more defensive champs, the 20-year-old has a vast champion pool.
- In 2021, he played for Hanwha Life, a somewhat irrelevant South Korean team: He made the organization competitive almost single-handedly and led them to the quarterfinals of the LoL Worlds. On the way, he also crushed the hopes of Fnatic and demolished the European solo queue.
- Chovy was so dominant at Hanwha Life that in the West, the team was dubbed the “Church of Chovy” and ironically referred to Chovy as “Our Lord and Savior.” In power rankings, Chovy appears alongside players like Showmaker, Canyon, Doinb, or Viper in the top 5 best players in the world.

Where does Chovy play now? In 2022, Chovy moves to Gen G. The team from South Korea reached the semifinals of the Worlds in 2021 and only fell short against the eventual world champion EDward Gaming.
The team will almost completely restructure for 2022. From the old roster, only ADC Ruler remains in the starting five. Ruler was part of the legendary team around Ambition, which won the LoL Worlds 2017 as “Samsung Galaxy.” Back then, they denied Faker and T1 the highly coveted fourth world championship title.
In addition to Ruler and Chovy, Gen G. has brought back the legendary jungler Peanut, who played for STK1 for two years and became world champion in 2016. Peanut was acquired in exchange for the previous midlaner Bdd. Gen G. no longer needs him, as they have Chovy in that position in the team.
Gen G. could play a decisive role in the LCK in 2022, especially as it remains unclear how much of the super team DWG KIA still remains:
