The alpha phase of the new “League of Legends” client is almost over. Soon, all players will be able to use and try the new client.
In recent months, only selected players could participate in the alpha phase of the new client. To try out the new client, players had to register on the “League of Legends” website and hope to be selected. This alpha phase is now almost complete and will soon transition into an open beta phase, in which all players who wish can use the new client.
Open Beta of the LoL Clients
Once the open beta starts, you will receive a notification in your “classic” client. Through this notification, you can download the new client. The size of the open beta patches will be approximately 1.5 GB, but will be divided into several patches. You can switch immediately once you have downloaded the required files. If you do not wish to participate in the open beta, you can simply ignore the notification in the client and continue using the classic client. However, the classic client will not last forever. After the open beta, every client will automatically update to the latest version.
While the open beta is active, the League of Legends team will continually integrate smaller features and fixes into the client. In this testing phase, not only will graphics and animations be improved, but performance will also be worked on. The goal of the beta is to create a stable client that provides a good gaming experience.
At the beginning of the open beta, individual features such as the spectator mode (in friend and custom games) will not be available. These and other features will be added in later patches. Additionally, item sets will not be carried over from the classic client. Riot states that this feature was rarely used by players. Many players requested support for third-party tools like “Championify”. In the announcement, it is stated that these tools will be supported by the new client.
If you wish to revert to the old client during the beta phase after trying out the new client, you can do so with a “rollback” button. However, keep in mind that after the open beta, you will have to use the new client anyway.
As soon as a date for the open beta of the new client is known, we will, of course, inform you.
