In League of Legends, the South Korean professional player, Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok (26), is a legend. He won 3 world championship titles at the beginning of LoL and is now in the finals for the 5th time at Worlds 2022: However, it has always been noted that Faker uses the “Tab” key furiously during a match. Viewers at the live tournament have now noticed how it looks in serious cases.
What is special about Faker’s playstyle?
- Faker was long considered the best player of all time in League of Legends: Over the last 5 years, the praise for him has quieted down as 4 new South Korean midlaners shone, winning the Worlds. But now at LoL Worlds 2022, Faker seems to be back in top form.
- Faker is known for repeatedly pressing the “Tab” key during a LoL game to check the stats screen and see what other players are doing and which items they are buying. He only looks at these overlays for tiny moments but seems to absorb the information almost subconsciously now.
- Or Faker checks what is happening in other parts of the Rift – simply playing his game and paying attention to what his character is doing in-game is out of the question.
This ability is making waves again during LoL Worlds 2022.
“Just Faker Things”
This is the tweet: During his semi-final match at LoL Worlds 2022 with T1 against the Chinese team JDG, a Twitter user filmed the players’ screens with her phone:
- All other players are looking at their screens and clearly seeing what is happening
- In contrast, Faker’s screen flickers like crazy because he is constantly looking at the stats screen or checking other areas of the playing field
The tweet has now garnered almost 470,000 views and 19,500 “likes”. Many in the comments say they can’t understand what the heck Faker is seeing in a hundredth of a second.
One user says: The screen flickered so fast that she assumed his monitor was simply malfunctioning. Another says: Bro, the guy is probably playing Valorant on the side while playing at the Worlds.
Others say: Even when they watch Faker’s Twitch stream, they get headaches from the crazy tab frenzy of the pro.
Faker Becomes a Meme: “Nerf Faker”
How is this viewed? This characteristic of Faker, of never being able to stay still, has long been known in the community.
As early as 2021, several videos about “Multitasking Faker” appeared, where Faker checks many other tabs on his computer during a LoL game, solves complex captchas, calculates math problems, or excels in other games.
If you can’t get enough of Faker, there are two more variations of the meme here (via youtube) and here (via youtube).
Just not of this world.
Faker made it back to the finals with T1 in 2022, facing one of his oldest rivals, with whom he went to school 10 years ago, Deft.
He is also 26, had a much less spectacular career than Faker, but now it’s all on the line in the finals. Either Faker gets his 4th title as the first player, or the complete underdog wins the Worlds:
