Anyone who is not afraid of Gen G. before the LoL Worlds 2023 is beyond help. The co-favorites for the world championship title of League of Legends look stronger than ever. Especially their mid laner Chovy (22) seems to be in top form before the WM. He has broken the all-time record in ranked on the Korean servers.
Who is the favorite for the LoL Worlds 2023?
- The bookmakers once again see the Chinese team JD Gaming ahead for 2023 and give them odds of 1:2.25. The Chinese team around knight and Kanavi was eliminated last year by T1 and Faker in the semifinals.
- However, the second major favorite is the Korean team Gen G. Esports (odds 1:5). Their mid laner Chovy is currently in top form.
- Chovy easily grabbed gold at the Asia Games while putting Faker on the bench.

Who is this and why is he such a monster? Chovy (22 today) entered the scene in 2018 when the controversial coach CvMax, who sometimes chokes players, discovered him for his team Griffin.
When the team collapsed due to a scandal, Chovy switched to Dragon X out of loyalty to CvMax, until that also fell apart. After that, he worked for a year as a “one-man demolition crew” for Hanwha Life.
At all 3 teams, Chovy was the strongest player but lacked the support to go far in the Worlds. Nevertheless, he managed to reach the Worlds with all 3 teams, which is already considered a great success: it is not easy to consistently compete against the strong competition in South Korea.
Since 2021, Chovy has been playing for Gen G., one of the strongest teams in South Korea. There, he became champion in 2022 along with 2 other players from the “Team Griffin” days: top talent Doran and supporter Lehends.
Meanwhile, the supporter Lehends and the world-class ADC Ruler are gone, but Gen G. is still excellently staffed, as they have prodigy bot laner Peyz and jungler Peanut, a veteran who has already served under Faker.
Chovy has now developed into a monster in the mid lane. In the West, a community has even formed that refers to him as “Our Lord and Savior Chovy”.
He has now broken this record: Chovy broke the record for the most points in the LCK before the Worlds. With 2008, he is in second place with 200 points; no one has ever had more LP on the Korean servers.
This is also impressive because many top players from other countries flock to the solo queue of the Korean server for the World Championship, which is considered the toughest in the world.
Chovy has played 305 games, winning 62%. His top champions were Yone, Jayce, K‘sante, Azir, and Sylas.
After Gen G. often had unfortunate exits in recent years, most recently in the semifinals, 2023 could be Chovy’s Worlds – unless his old colleague Ruler gets in the way.
Ruler is playing for JD Gaming, the top favorite, in 2023, and Chovy will probably have to beat them if he finally wants to secure his 1st World Championship title.
