The developers of LoL (League of Legends) have now confirmed that the new champion selection will replace the teambuilder and this will be removed from the game
As Riot’s Lead Game Designer Jeffrey Lin stated, they have learned from the problems the current teambuilder brought. Long waiting times and too few tactical options when assembling a team will be a thing of the past.
With the new champion selection, players can better coordinate with their teammates about which combination of champions fits best and whether, for example, to play an AOE combo.
The banning phase will also be a team task. Players can indicate to their team before banning which champion they would like to play, so that this character or another with good synergy is not accidentally banned. This would be beneficial, for instance, if a player wants to play a knock-up combo for Yasuo.
The Blind Pick mode will also be revised
In this mode, there are no bans and it can happen that both teams have the same champions. They also want to refresh this mode, at least visually, so that players experience the new champion selection – just without bans and alternating picks.
On January 13, 2016, the new champion selection will go live for normal and ranked games on the NA & TR servers as a test. If everything goes according to plan, the new system will also appear on other servers in the following days.
This means that the first major project that LoL planned for 2016 will go online very early. I personally look forward to the new champion selection in LoL.
A forum post also pointed out that the revision of the mages in LoL is already in full swing.
