Toxic behavior of players is a major problem for many developers. Riot Games is introducing a new report feature with patch 13.8 for League of Legends that should make it easier for you to report toxic players even after a match.
League of Legends is infamous for the toxic behavior of some of its players. It’s no surprise, considering that 5 strangers are thrown into a match. Without much coordination, you have to play together. Since even small mistakes during a game can have major consequences, teamwork is especially important.
If something doesn’t go according to plan, it quickly raises tempers. Some players have even made a career on Twitch or YouTube out of it. Tyler1, for example, is the unofficial poster boy for toxic behavior.
Riot Games, the developers of the MOBA, have already tried a lot to silence the meanies. There is a system that can automatically mute toxic players. In cases of severe violations, automated account bans are even issued. Now the developers have come up with something new and revamped the report function with patch 13.8.
Toxic behavior in MOBAs is annoying. However, this apparently does not detract from the popularity of LoL, as this video shows, which has been viewed millions of times.
Riot Games wants to make it easier for you to report toxic players even after the fact
What have the developers announced? With the new patch 13.8, the LoL creators have adjusted the report function. In the future, it will be possible to report toxic behavior already during the course of the game. Additionally, you can now also report players after the fact who could not behave.
Reporting is now possible during the game! You can report another player by right-clicking on their line when you are viewing the summaries of past games in your match history.

The report function is one of the few tools that players and developers have to combat toxic behavior. Ideally, repeated reports quickly lead to penalties, and toxic accounts are banned.
Ironically, the report function can also be abused by trolls who report innocent players. Therefore, it is quite likely that the developers will continue to look for ways to improve the system. However, the new feature is an important and correct step.
What do you think of the new report functions in League of Legends? Do you think this is the right step to curb toxic behavior? Or do you think that trolls will not be deterred by this? Let us know in a comment and discuss with the community.
