In League of Legends there is constant unrest at T1 in one position. The team’s head, Joe Marsh, is insisting that the main ADC Gumayusi plays, but the coaches are pushing for Smash, a rookie player. After Gumayusi was forced into the starting five of the world champion in LoL, it’s now over again on April 10th.
This is the situation at T1: T1 has two strong players in the ADC position for 2025:
- The manager, Joe Marsh, wants the established player Gumayusi (23) to play. The fans love him and he has won the Worlds twice in a row. When he plays, it is probably best for the atmosphere and ticket and jersey sales.
- However, the coaches apparently want to play with the young rookie Smash (18) because he is showing better performance in training and they are convinced by him.
In the last season, Smash played the majority of the matches, but T1 was eliminated early. Therefore, the head of T1, the American Joe Marsh, spoke forcefully in March 2025 and brought Gumayusi back into the starting lineup against the will of the South Korean coaches.
Fan: “As soon as he dies, he’s out,” but Gumayusi plays perfectly
This is how it has gone: Gumayusi has now played the first 2 matches of the new split as ADC. In Match 1, Gumayusi was perfect. Against DRX, he scored 7-0-10 on Jhin and 5-0-6 on Miss Fortune. He didn’t die a single time.
The fans were already joking: Gumayusi plays as if his starting position depended on it.
And: “He knows exactly he will be replaced immediately if he dies even once.”
In the epic duel of T1 against Gen G. it was time: Gumayusi also played perfectly in Match 1 and achieved 4-0-17 on Jhin.
But in Match 2 and 3, losses for T1, Gumayusi did die once. We reported on the epic battle.
This is now the result: After the defeat against Gen G, Gumayusi has indeed been sent to the bench and Smash returned to the starting lineup.
And indeed, T1 also won both games against KT Rolster convincingly.
Fans of Gumayusi find his treatment disrespectful
This is now the discussion: The fans of Gumayusi cannot understand how “their favorite” is being treated here. They find it disrespectful to replace him after a single loss. He has done nothing wrong.
Some even advise him to switch teams.
This is what the coaches say: The coaches emphasize that they have two good players and see Smash ahead in training and scrimmages. Gumayusi should now use his time on the bench to get back in shape: The CEO of Faker’s team in LoL overrules the coaches and swaps the 18-year-old for the fan favorite.
