In League of Legends (LoL), not only the mean players should be punished. The good ones also deserve rewards. If you meet the requirements, you will receive a skin and a recall for free.
Why is there a skin? In a developer update (via leagueoflegends.com), the League of Legends team addresses the honor system and the punishments for mean players. There, Hana “TimTamMonster” Dinh, the product lead of the behavioral systems team, discusses how they want to reward nice players now.
For this, you will receive an exclusive skin and a special recall as an end-of-season reward. Additionally, the team admits that in the past, they did not enforce the penalties for reports from champion select rigorously enough.
Is the skin for you? Here’s how “nice” you need to be
This is the requirement: If you reach Honor Level 5 by the end of the season, you will receive a special recall animation and an exclusive skin. The exact appearance of these two contents and for which champion the skin will be is still unknown. You will also receive the recall animation if you were honored in your last game by a non-party member or by two party members.
You can be honored for being
- Cool-headed
- A great team leader
- Or simply played as a nice team member
With this, the team wants to show that they not only punish the mean players but also reward the good players.
Punishments for players who behave poorly in champion select
This is what Riot says: The team admits that they did not introduce the appropriate punishments for players who are rightfully reported during champion select. Although the team had promised to do so.
The reports from champion select account for only about 3.2% of all reports in LoL, yet they should not be underestimated. “[…] however, we are aware that the players’ experience in all areas of the game is important,” explains Hana “TimTamMonster” Dinh in the dev blog.
