The German LoL professional Jona “Reptile” Fritz has thrown away his chance at a great career in League of Legends . He lost his job as a starting ADC at Fnatic TQ and will likely forever be associated with a scandal: Because he had a second account with a completely unacceptable name: Hitler
What was the player accused of?
- On Sunday, a post appeared on reddit: the ADC of the junior team Fnatic TQ has a second account with the name “Hitler119”. The account even has level 267 and was only played two months ago (via u.gg).
- The German logged into one of his second accounts during a Twitch stream and its name was “Hitler119”: The reddit user says that it is impossible, especially as Germans we learn so much about the dictator and mass murderer in school, there can be no excuse.
- Only a few hours after this news was on reddit, Fnatic TQ released the player. Fnatic is one of the largest and most important LoL teams in Europe.
Team fires him shortly after the Reddit post
This is what Fnatic TC says: They say that the “events in the stream” showed that he does not represent the values of the team and Quesco. He is not the role model one expects from a representative of both organizations (via twitter).
Therefore, they terminated the contract.
In the comments on the tweet, even further punishment is demanded: a fine, mandatory courses for professionals in PR, or monitoring of behavior.
The penalty does not correspond to the severity of the act.
This is what the player says: He did not name his account that way himself (via twitter). His mistake was sharing his account with a friend. He takes full responsibility for sharing the account, but he was not aware that the account now bore this name, which “cannot be accepted.”
“Once again: It was my terrible mistake and I am ready to face the consequences.”
Friend names character without considering the consequences
Why did his friend name the account that way? The friend in question says: He renamed the account six months ago without thinking about what consequences that would have.
He did it as a joke because in June 2022 someone on Twitter thanked “Hitler199” for “6 months” without apparently understanding who Hitler is. With “6 months” it is apparently meant that the user has renewed their Twitch subscription for 6 months. Streamers thank supporters with such messages.
Twitter discusses: How could one have gotten out of this situation?
How is this being discussed? There is a discussion on Twitter: The situation alone was already terrible, but the professional also behaved unfavorably afterwards, not reacting immediately. That a friend renamed the account without his knowledge is seen as an “excuse.” The reddit user from whom the revelation originates even publicly doubts the story.
There is a discussion on Twitter about how one could have escaped the hopeless situation of publicly owning an account with such a name (via twitter).
One user gives the following tips:
- Tweet immediately – do not delete anything, do not cover anything up. Admit what happened immediately
- Say that you had “edgy friends,” were previously “edgy” yourself – but now you have to grow up and will address this
- Announce that you are against everything fascist, hypocritical and against Nazis.
- Announce that you will make a large donation, part of your salary, or all streaming revenue in the fight against fascism.
The user says: “It is too late now, this should have happened immediately.”
It has almost become a meme that young e-sports professionals ruin their careers in the most stupid way before they have really started:
