In League of Legends the transfer phase in e-sports begins. Especially the 5 million deal surrounding player PerkZ of G2 Esports is in focus. However, the biggest European competitor of G2 could also benefit from this deal.
Update November 20: In fact, the transfer of Rekkles to G2 Esports has now taken place.
Update November 18: As it stands, Rekkles, the AD carry of Fnatic, could be transferring exactly to G2 Esports. This would likely negate one of the advantages.
How does Fnatic benefit from it? As the well-known journalist Jacob Wolf from ESPN reports, the European team Fnatic is interested in signing Yasin “Nisqy” Dinçer. He is currently the midlaner of the American team Cloud 9.
The team is reportedly interested in Luka “PerkZ” Perković and might even pay a transfer fee of 5 million dollars. Anyone who invests that much money in a new midlaner certainly won’t be too attached to their previous player. Jacob Wolf mentioned two weeks ago that if PerkZ transfers, Cloud 9 would let go of Nisqy.
Why does Fnatic benefit in two ways?
- By signing the new midlaner Nisqy, they could improve their own position. The current midlaner Nemesis was considered a weak point in the past season.
- The transfer of PerkZ could weaken the strongest competitor in Europe, G2 Esports. After all, PerkZ, although he transferred to the bot lane in favor of midlaner Caps, was regarded as an important and strong player on the team.
Is the mid lane the weak point of Fnatic?
What is Fnatic’s problem? Tim “Nemesis” Lipovšek is the current midlaner of Fnatic. While he is considered strong, he has also had some weak phases, especially in the 2020 season.
The biggest criticism is his champion pool. While in 2019 his best champs were simultaneously the strongest in the game, this year it looked different. The site esports.com rated Fnatic lower in their ranking for Worlds because there was a big question mark behind Nemesis.
- In the Summer Split 2020, Nemesis achieved only a KDA of 3.1 and ended up in 7th place out of 10 possible spots.
- In general, he was only involved in 59.5% of all kills of his team, putting him last. ZaZee from SK Gaming, Caps from G2 Esports, and Larssen from Rogue all achieved an involvement of over 70% (via Oracleselixir).
All of this is far too little for a team that aspires to compete for the top spots at Worlds.
Is Nisqy the solution? Nisqy (featured image) has been part of Cloud9 since late 2018. With him, the American team reached the regional finals twice and won one championship in Spring 2020.
In this split, he achieved a KDA of 6.7 (the best value in the LCS) and was involved in 69.4% of all kills (3rd place in the LCS).
However, there were also problems for Cloud9 in Summer 2020. Nisqy was temporarily replaced and there were adjustments in the top lane as well. The team only reached 4th place, meaning they did not qualify for Worlds. Now, Nisqy could attempt a fresh start at Fnatic.
How is the rest of Fnatic doing? While there is discussion about the mid lane, there have already been some statements from the other Fnatic players about their future:
- Support Zdravets “Hylissang” Galabov has already confirmed that he will remain loyal to the team. He is regarded as one of the best players in his position.
- Both players Bwipo (top lane) and Selfmade (jungle) also seem to want to commit longer to Fnatic (via Dexerto).
- Only Rekkles and Nemesis currently have question marks.
The mid lane in focus during transfer season
What else is happening with the teams? This year, the mid lane seems to be the main focus for teams. It is the most prestigious position, although in recent years, junglers have often been selected as the most important players at Worlds:
- After Worlds, Bjergsen, the midlaner of TSM, announced his retirement. He is expected to be replaced by the German player PowerOfEvil.
- Jensen, on the other hand, has been signed long-term despite his “old age” and will likely remain the midlaner for Team Liquid for another 3 years.
- For the Korean team T1 around superstar Faker, new coaches have been acquired to strengthen the team again.
Further headlines were made by the transfer of Broken Blade to Schalke 04. This could significantly strengthen the team, which surprisingly reached the playoffs after a disastrous start in Summer 2020:
