Buying Champions in League of Legends – With and Without Money
To play a champion in the game, they must either be free-to-play or you must own them. To acquire a hero, you can buy them in the shop using in-game currency. This includes Riot Points (RP), which you can buy for real money, and Influence Points (IP), which you earn after each game.
The button for the shop can be found in the game client below your summoner name – it is marked with a treasure chest. It is advisable not to buy champions for RP, as if you play regularly, you will quickly accumulate enough IP to afford even expensive champions.
As shown in the image, champions are divided into different price categories. These prices depend on how new a champion is or whether they are on sale. Completely new champions cost 7800 IP in the first week and 6300 IP thereafter. When a new champion appears, an older champion that has been 6300 IP for a long time is reduced to 4800 IP after a certain period.
Other price categories are 3150 IP, the next cheapest 1350 IP, and finally the cheapest category of 450 IP for a champion.
If you decide to buy champions for “real money”, for example because you are impatient, then it is particularly worthwhile to buy champion bundles.
In terms of price/performance, these bundles are most worthwhile, as you get many champions at a significantly reduced price. This is particularly suitable for LoL beginners because these packages include champions of various roles, making it easier to find which role or champion you personally enjoy.
