The Twitch streamer Vakin made a brilliant play with the Viking Olaf in League of Legends. He first destroyed a Pink Ward to reach level 6, and then dismantled the opposing team with the newly acquired Ultimate. This allowed him to win a 1vs4 in what seemed like an impossible situation. Fans were amazed and praised the streamer with a “Galaxy Brain,” a high compliment. The tragic part: Despite the play, the streamer is already being overlooked by some.
This is the situation in the stream: The relatively small Twitch streamer Vakin (9,800 followers) is playing Olaf in the jungle and is at level 5 when his teammate Sylas gets into serious trouble. A fight breaks out near the Dragon Pit: Nocturne and Twisted Fate are chasing Sylas.
Olaf is able to take down Nocturne, but his own teammate Sylas is dead. Olaf simply cannot get to the ranged fighter Twisted Fate, and even worse: The opposing team is now rushing in to farm the lonely Olaf. He is just about to reach level 6, needing only a tiny bit of EXP, but his fate seems sealed. He essentially has no way to survive the situation.
Olaf then returns to the bush where he had spotted a Pink Ward from the opponent. He kills this Pink Ward with 4 hits while keeping Twisted Fate at bay with an axe throw: This gives him the needed EXP to hit level 6.
Now Vakin quickly activates Olaf’s Ultimate, which makes him unstoppable. Olaf goes into a berserker rage and wins the ensuing 1vs3, as the opponents – Twisted Fate, Samira, and Nautilus – come at him one after the other, not expecting that a half-dead level-5 Olaf suddenly charges at them with Ultimate while regenerating health.
Wrestler Ryback and Olaf steal the show from Twitch streamers
This is what makes the play so good: Vakin’s presence of mind and his “map awareness” are especially praised here. He had to recognize and execute various things in a very short time.
- He couldn’t reach Twisted Fate anymore, so chasing him was pointless – that would have meant certain death.
- Olaf himself was so close to level 6 that he just needed a tiny EXP boost.
- The streamer had to know how and where to get that EXP in the shortest time – from the Pink Ward.
- He bravely charged into 3 approaching enemies while starting the fight alone and with low health.
- Ultimately, he had to execute his attack flawlessly to eliminate the opponents quickly, leaving them hardly any chance to react.
This is the mean part about the clip: The cruel thing is that the teammates in the chat do not give the Twitch streamer any respect for the action. Because they did not properly see the play.
His colleagues in the voice chat simply assume: “Olaf is just OP” and that he handled it. Vakin then has to explain what a brilliant move he made with the ward.
Small Twitch streamer is somehow always overlooked
This is how it’s being discussed: The clip quickly landed on reddit. Here it received 18,300 upvotes and 256 comments – that is a lot of attention.
But on reddit, users find the GIF in the lower right corner of the clip fantastic, where wrestler Ryback devours a bag of chips in an endless loop.
In the most upvoted comments on reddit, the discussion is about:
- wrestler Ryback and what a beast he is
- that someone met Ryback in a sushi restaurant and how impressive he was devouring sushi rolls there
- the streamer Valkrin, who has a name similar to Vakin, and what he actually does
Only much later does Vakin finally receive his praise: Someone says he is an incredibly intelligent streamer and is totally underrated. Vakin has a “Galaxy Brain,” meaning he makes very intelligent streams and knows LoL incredibly well.
Maybe this clip will finally bring him the well-deserved breakthrough when people can finally divert their gaze from Olaf and Ryback.
