In League of Legends, Eintracht Frankfurt will likely play in the 1st Division of the German Prime League in 2023, as they missed the promotion in a sporting sense. YouTuber HandOfBlood mocks: “There is only one Eintracht”, namely his team in Berlin-Spandau.
How did 2022 go for Eintracht Frankfurt in LoL? Frankfurt performed well in 2022 in the 2nd Prime Division in Germany:
- Eintracht Frankfurt finished 2nd in the regular season of the summer split with a record of 12-6, only Hertha BSC was better
- In the playoffs, however, Frankfurt first lost to Hertha BSC 1-3 and then surprisingly to the Twitch streamer team NNO 2-3. The match against NNO was watched by 70,000 people, we reported on this on MeinMMO.
- This meant that Frankfurt only achieved 3rd place in the league, thus could not be promoted. Only the 2 best teams of the second league, Hertha and NNO, got the chance to play in the promotion to the 1st league.
Eintracht Frankfurt allegedly buys league spot from WAVE Esports
This is the news now: According to a well-known LoL insider who is usually correct, Eintracht Frankfurt has bought the Prime League spot from WAVE Esports.
WAVE Esports was clearly last in the Prime Division in the Spring Split 2022 with 1-17, in the summer they finished 7th with 6-12. Ultimately, WAVE Esports was still better than all the teams in the 2nd league in the relegation and thus could sportingly remain in the 1st German LoL league.
If the insider’s information proves true, WAVE Esports will still be finished with the 1st league.
Frankfurt criticized Spandau 2 weeks ago for buying “league spots”, now does it themselves
What are the comments now? There is already some mocking along the lines of “If you can’t achieve it sporting-wise, then you buy a spot.”
Especially “Eintracht Spandau”, the 1st league team of YouTuber HandOfBlood, is active in the Twitter comments.
This is revenge for a comment from Eintracht Frankfurt on November 10th: At that time, Eintracht Spandau had publicly toyed with the idea of buying the league spot from “NNO” and then letting a 2nd team play in the first league.
Eintracht Frankfurt mocked on Twitter back then: “Oops… Spandau buys another spot again instead of working for it.”
Now they are making fun of this in Berlin, as 2 weeks later Eintracht Frankfurt does exactly that: They buy themselves a spot in the 1st league, which they could not achieve through hard work.
From HandOfBlood comes the announcement in his role as egotistical president Knabe in perfect English: “SER IS ONLY WAN EINTRACHT”.
One should probably not take all of this too seriously, as the German clubs like to mock each other, especially the popular Eintracht Spandau is drawing the ire of the social media accounts of the other clubs.
Hertha BSC, by the way, is doing exactly the opposite of Eintracht Frankfurt, as they are going down, not up. Hertha missed the promotion to the 1st league against NNO and will dissolve its LoL team in 2023.
Also, NNO will not play in the 1st league in the configuration that achieved promotion:
