Since the latest patch (14.8) in League of Legends, it seems that Draven is hated even more than before. He has been buffed and is now banned even more frequently. MyMMO reveals what’s behind this.
Draven is known for quickly dominating the bot lane. Already in the early game, he deals enormous damage with his Q (Spinning Axe). His Q is essentially just a boosted auto-attack that cannot be dodged by the opposing ADC (except for Nilah) – unlike Caitlyn’s Q, for example.
He can catch his Q (the thrown axe) again to automatically prepare a new “Spinning Axe.” He can have two Spinning Axes
at the same time.
In the latest patch, Draven received a buff from Riot Games on his Q.
This is what the buff on his Q (Spinning Axe) does:
- Additional normal damage: From 40/45/50/55/60 (+75/85/95/105/115% bonus attack damage) to 45/50/55/60/65 (+75/85/95/105/115% bonus attack damage)
Why was he buffed? The reasoning given on the official LoL website is: We want to give Draven back the ability to lane bully
. Draven didn’t have enough power to control the early game – which is why Riot Games buffed his Q.
This could be one of the reasons why he is currently one of the most banned champions. Even before the patch, he was already frequently banned, but with the buff, he seems to be reaching the top.
According to u.gg, he has a ban rate of at least 26.9% starting from Emerald+ (Ranked Solo), which increases further with each higher rank. In Grandmaster and Challenger rank, he is banned in almost every second game (ban rate of 51%). In Gold, he is still among the top 4 with 15.1%.
Players apparently want to avoid facing Draven in lane at all costs.
I just hate him
What is the reason? On Reddit, it becomes clear that this high ban rate is not necessarily due to Draven’s strength in the current meta, but also because players simply hate
Draven.
We have summarized some comments for you:
- One user writes:
He is one of those champions you ban just to keep him out of the game. He still has a super toxic player base, so it’s a bonus if they dodge [in champ select]. […]
- Dragonatis writes:
[…] As others say, he is just toxic, and it’s no fun to play against him.
- Another user writes:
His base damage is just crazy. In terms of base damage alone, he already outperforms most ADCs. […]
The top comment under the Reddit thread about Draven reads: I don’t even know if he is really good at the moment. I just hate him.
It seems that his playstyle and abilities frustrate many players. His ability to dominate the lane quickly makes him an unpleasant opponent – especially when he falls into the hands of an experienced player.
Strong snowball potential and lots of damage
With his passive, he accumulates stacks when he catches his Q, destroys a tower, or kills minions or monsters. The more stacks he has, the more bonus gold he receives when he kills an enemy champion. The stacks are consumed once he has killed someone. This allows him to gain an advantage, even more so if he is already dominating. If Draven dies himself, he loses stacks.
He has enormous snowball potential, plus a bit of movement speed and a small knockback (CC), allowing him to interrupt skills – overall a strong package.
Now it’s your turn: What do you think? Does Draven annoy you? Or perhaps you have another champion who is your personal archenemy? Feel free to let us know in the comments.
