A larger myth in the lower ranks of League of Legends is the Loser´s Queue
. Many players are convinced that they are intentionally paired with worse teammates so that they lose. A Riot developer is now clearing up this myth.
What is the Loser´s Queue
?
- According to some players, the matchmaking is supposed to be manipulated
- It is said that players are intentionally paired with
worse teammates
so that they lose - This is supposed to happen especially when one is on a losing streak
- Players on a winning streak are said to win more often, so they play more, while players on a losing streak are supposedly encouraged to play more because they want to reach their
true rank
There has never been any official evidence, aside from personal accounts. A physics student even analyzed the opposite. To counter this myth, League of Legends gameplay designer RiotPhroxzon has made statements.

The Loser´s Queue does not exist
Matt Leung-Harrison, known as RiotPhroxzon, posted an explanation of the Losers Queue
on x.com. At the beginning, he directly clarifies: The Loser´s Queue does not exist. We do not intentionally put bad players in your team so that you lose more.
He also questions the fundamental idea of why players should be made to lose instead of being allocated good players so they can win. The only factor for ranking is oneself. If one should win a lot and then loses, it is because they are playing against better players.
He describes that many matches where players claim they played perfectly still contain many mistakes that are game-defining.
I promise you, if a good player reviews your games, there are hundreds of things you could have done differently that could have changed the course of the game.

According to him, the reason for many lost matches lies in the mentality of the players. A good non-giving-up-attitude
would help many players. Additionally, he gives three tips at the end of the post that can help you improve.
- 1. Most players play too conservatively with a lead
- 2. Review every death
- 3. Play towards your win condition while recognizing and disrupting those of others.
Among the comments on the post, many people are gathering to mock the myth of the Loser´s Queue
, but there are also some who firmly believe in the myth.
- @iamghostdesigns:
I refuse to believe that
- @KlausTito:
That’s a lie, and you know it
- @Lena_miaou:
I think I’m more annoyed by the attitude of giving up and by the people who troll after a death.
Many of the justifications are not really plausible and rather appear to be angry responses. A significant point in the statement, however, is about surrendering, which has become a major issue for many players: Players in LoL are frustrated because teammates give up too quickly in ranked: “It’s completely out of control”
