On reddit, the user SweetBunnn asked what the worst match-up in the game is. While many users suspect match-ups involving Kalista, Yuumi, or Irelia, the Riot developer GalaxySmash responds to the post.
According to him, statistically, Malphite vs Sylas is the worst match-up. Of the 3 out of the 4 worst match-ups, it is always Malphite vs Sylas. This affects top lane, mid lane, and the jungle.
In this match-up, Malphite is simply bad
Basically every champion has a counter and a match-up they lose. This can be seen quite well on sites like U.GG in the statistics for the current patch. You can also break it down by lanes and different ranks.
In general, Malphite is doing quite well in the current meta. With a win rate of 51.79% (as of 17.10.2023), he is a solid pick in the top lane. But even in the statistics, you can see how he has little chance against Sylas. But what is it due to?
On one hand, it is because Sylas is an AP mage. However, Malphite is incredibly strong against AD champions since he functions well with armor. On the other hand, it is due to Malphite’s ultimate. In team fights, it is one of the best ults in the game, and Sylas can simply steal it with his own ultimate and use it for his own team.
