For the tenth anniversary of League of Legends (LoL), some new games from Riot Games were presented in a stream. Among them is a mobile version of LoL, which will be a completely standalone game.
What will be different in the new version? The new version of League of Legends is called Wild Rift and is set to be released for iOS, Android, and consoles.
However, Wild Rift is not a port of the PC version, but its own MOBA, so there will be significant differences:
- Wild Rift will feature a twin-stick control scheme.
- There will be an adapted version of Summoner’s Rift, allowing matches to last only 15 to 18 minutes.
- Animations and models have been newly developed for this version.
- At launch, there will be only 41 of the champions released in LoL.
Visually, you will feel right at home in League of Legends: Wild Rift, as the announcement trailer shows.
When will Wild Rift be released? The release of Wild Rift is planned for 2020. The MOBA should even be released worldwide by the end of 2020.
If you are interested in the game, you can already register on the official website. There will be initial beta tests later this year, but only in China at first.
Free2Play and bonuses for PC players
The payment model: Wild Rift is set to be Free2Play, just like the PC version of League of Legends. You should be able to unlock all champions through playing and not just through the shop.
The shop will not include any content for real money that makes you stronger than other players. You will likely get champions and skins through it, just like in LoL itself.
Just last month, it was announced that LoL is the most popular PC game in the world. Now, Riot Games also wants to conquer other platforms.
Are there any benefits for PC players? While Wild Rift is a standalone game, you won’t be able to carry over your unlocked items from League of Legends, there will be some “cool rewards” for spending time in the PC version before.
What those rewards exactly are and additional details about the release of Wild Rift are expected to be announced in the first quarter of 2020.
Besides LoL, Teamfight Tactics will also get a mobile version. However, this will be released much sooner and offers more connection to the PC version:
