The cat champion in League of Legends has been hated by many players for years. However, the character is still played because he is far too strong. Now, Riot Games is revising the champion Yuumi to make her more beginner-friendly.
Why is Yuumi being adjusted? In the past, Yuumi has caused a lot of trouble and has always been a challenge when it comes to adjustments. At the 2022 World Championship, she was able to dominate her lane so much that players argued she should be banned globally.
She was supposed to be adjusted repeatedly, but the developers never found the right approach. Initially, they wanted to make the champion less attractive for pro play. It even went so far that the developers weakened Yuumi to the point of being practically unplayable.
The developer Riot Phroxzon writes (via Twitter) that they see the character as a beginner character for friends of long-time players. They want to offer pairs of two a new type of experience that Yuumi has not shown so far. Additionally, the difficulty of Yuumi is to be adjusted so that she meets her new price of 450 Blue Essences.
Yuumi will be your new best friend
What are they changing about Yuumi? Yuumi is to receive a complete overhaul of her abilities in the context of the changes from patch 13.5. Developer Riot Phroxzon has already announced the changes to Yuumi on Twitter. She will be playable on the test server until release.
The background is to make her easily accessible for beginners, but hard to master. First, about her passive ability:
- When she hits opponents with her attacks or abilities, she heals herself. If Yuumi then attaches to a champion, that champion is also healed.
- With her passive ability, she builds up friendship levels over the course of the game. When she hangs onto her best friend, her abilities gain bonus effects.
- This means that Yuumi will no longer easily leave her position to attach to other champions. As she will lose the bonuses on her abilities due to a lower friendship level.
Her Q ability has not undergone major adjustments. The ability is now enhanced when it travels longer distances. The projectile becomes faster and slows the opponent. If Yuumi hits a champion, her best friend, if she is attached to him, deals additional damage with his basic attacks.
So far, Yuumi has increased the base stats of a champion when she was attached to them with her W ability. This will be completely removed in the rework. Otherwise, her best friend benefits from more healing.
With her E ability, Yuumi will now only distribute a shield after the rework. The developers explicitly noted in the patch notes that all champions can be saved by Yuumi and that there is no bonus for the best friend. Additionally, Yuumi restores mana to the champion she is attached to.
The original ultimate ability of Yuumi sent out 5 waves that held the opponent. With the rework, this part of the ability will also be removed. Instead, Yuumi can control the direction of her ultimate ability when attached to a champion.
Teammates hit will be healed and excess healing will be converted into a shield, while opponents will take damage and be slowed down. For each hit on the opponent, that opponent will be slowed down by 10%. Yuumi’s best friend enjoys additional armor and magic resistance during this time.
All in all, Yuumi is designed to make it less difficult to play against her. Her abilities will be more tied to her lane partner, thus restricting her flexibility.
