With Patch 12.22, League of Legends will receive several new features. The pre-season for 2023 starts and brings numerous champion changes. However, the adjustments to Lillia and Rakan are particularly noteworthy. Here, no numbers or abilities are changed, but only one word in their description.
What changes for the champions? Rakan and Lilia are currently considered ranged champions in the game. This will change with Patch 12.22. In the future, both champions will be melee champions.
However, they will retain their range of 300 and 325 for auto-attacks respectively. They will then be among the melee champions with the greatest range.
What does this change? Both champions will interact differently with items in the future. There are items in the game that deal less damage or have weaker effects when used by ranged champions.
Thus, Rakan and Lilia will both receive a buff without any numbers having to be adjusted.

What will change for Rakan? Rakan is currently played as a supporter in 97% of ranked matches. He usually uses the item “Relic Shield”. This allows him to execute minions that have dropped below a certain amount of health points.
- As a ranged champion, minions must currently be below 30% health points.
- As a melee champion, he will be able to instantly kill minions below 50% health in the future.
What will change for Lilia? Lilia already uses the item “Demonic Embrace” in current builds. This item deals damage to the opponent based on maximum health points. This damage depends on whether one is a melee champion (7.2% of health points) or a ranged champion (3.2%).
The switch to a melee champion may also affect Lilia’s position. Until now, she was mainly played in the jungle and rarely on the top lane. This adjustment could make her more interesting for the top lane.
When will the new Patch 12.22 be released? The new patch is expected to be released on November 16. In addition to the adjustments to Lilia and Rakan, it will also bring many other changes.
End of Season 12, new dragon, and new items
What will Patch 12.22 bring? Season 12 will end on November 14 at 23:59. A little later, the pre-season will be opened with Patch 12.22. This will bring:
- A brand-new dragon
- New items
- Anonymity in champion selection, so players cannot search for your name in third party apps
