In League of Legends (LoL) the new patch 10.23 is active. It particularly reworks the shop, brings new items and even mythical items. Some players seem overwhelmed.
What is happening in the new patch? In LoL, the preseason is currently happening, which has changed quite a bit with the new patch 10.23. The focus was on the item shop in the game, which now looks different, reacts differently, and suggests different items to players. In short: a lot is different now.
New mythical items are now the most powerful items in the game. Some legendary weapons and armors have been redesigned, so players will have to get used to the changes. The major shop overhaul was announced by LoL last summer.
For long-time players, the shop has been completely revamped. Many are struggling to adapt.
What exactly has changed in the shop in patch 10.23?
Recommended items: The selection of recommended items has been optimized according to Riot Games. This overview is now compiled based on your current equipment, opponents, and the course of the game.
All items: Here you can still find all items. By clicking on the icon of your class, you will find only items relevant for tanks, ADCs, mages, or other classes.
Quick buy window: On the left side of the shop, you will find this new window. Items such as potions, wards, and boots that are frequently purchased are provided here.
Mythical items: Mythical items are now the highest class of items that LoL has to offer. They are meant to define your play style. You can only own one mythical item. Each of these mythical items has a passive effect that makes legendary items more useful.
What lies behind the new mythical item in LoL.
New legendary items: The legendary items are now the highest item class prior to patch 10.23. Other than boots, you cannot upgrade them further. Here and there, new legendary items have been added to fill niches, including Demonic Embrace. It is basically Liandry’s Anguish, but for tanks.
How are the players reacting?
This is what Twitter shows: The shop change in LoL is hotly debated on social networks. Some players are struggling to cope with the change and want to take a break from LoL for now.
On the account of parquesomedia, an e-sports journalist for InvenGlobal, one reads: “I will really stop playing the game now. I absolutely cannot play with these items. It doesn’t make sense. I’m done with it.” He explains that this is his humble opinion and apologizes to the developers who are working on it. He simply can’t relate to it.
Kev1n from Spandauer Inferno writes on Twitter that he doesn’t like the look of the new items:
Niklot “Tolkin” Stüber, the top player of mousesports, also comments on the new look of the items on Twitter.
However, the patch also swings completely in the other direction and the new items are celebrated.
The popular streamer Frederik “NoWay4u_sir” Hinteregger writes that he is having a lot of fun trying out the changes.
Other players are now overwhelmed by the changes:
This is what reddit says: The new shop in LoL is also a hot topic on reddit. Often discussed is the size, which is simply too small on larger monitors. Others say that the new shop should never have gone live together with the new items. Players feel overwhelmed.
But whether on reddit or Twitter, no matter where you look, you keep reading: Just wait a little and play a few days with the new items and the new shop. Players should give themselves time to get used to the new system.

Frustration is currently occurring in another area of LoL: Fans are protesting against T1, the most important LoL team in the world.
