Top laner Illaoi shows an allergy to a new item in League of Legends. But that was apparently not the intention.
Which champion is it about? The Kraken Priestess Illaoi entered the game in 2015 and can inflict damage on her enemies with tentacles. She is primarily used in the top lane.
In high leagues Illaoi plays no role among professionals, but according to the tier list of the portal “u.gg” regarding the new patch 12.22, Illaoi is extremely popular in lower leagues. There, the top lane champion is not only played a lot but also successfully.
The current tier list for the top lane shows Illaoi with
- over 2,000 matches and 54.23% win rate in “Iron” (S+-Tier), ranked 4th in top lane
- over 9,000 matches and 53.38% win rate in Bronze (S+-Tier), ranked 3rd in top lane
- over 12,500 matches and 52.77% win rate in Silver (S+-Tier), ranked 6th in top lane
- over 8,000 matches and 51.74% win rate in Gold (S-Tier), ranked 12th in top lane
As rank increases, Illaoi gets increasingly replaced by other champions, but in the area where most players gather, she is one of the strongest characters overall. However, the new patch also brings a problem for Illaoi.

The patch notes also mention the item “Radiant Virtue”. The item actually distributes buffs after the use of the ultimate ability. However, something seems to be going wrong with Illaoi.
Mean bug leaves Illaoi defenseless
In the bug thread of the LoL subreddit, user Shadowofthedragon (via reddit) shared a video in which Illaoi’s cooldowns skyrocketed all at once. The champion suddenly could no longer defend herself.
Why, the user couldn’t explain: “Suddenly I was playing an F-Tier champion with randomly longer cooldowns that were about twice as long” (via reddit). The user also shared a corresponding video:
Subsequently, GalaxySmash from the Game Analysis Team commented on the bug, calling it “a big deal”: “We have identified the cause and will provide a fix as soon as possible” (via reddit).
Due to a bug, the new item “Radiant Virtue” seems to be responsible for the problem. As Illaoi comes into the range of the item, there are no buffs – but a faulty increase in cooldowns: “A kind of perfect storm of problems,” says GalaxySmash. “This should be fixed very soon.”
Until the fix is released, one should be careful when playing Illaoi – because the effect of the new item can obviously lead to problems for the champion.
Meanwhile, there is also news about new champions: A new representative for the bot lane is currently in planning, and an initial teaser for the new LoL champ is already out.
