The champion Skarner in League of Legends has been one of the least popular champions in the game, but with patch 14.7, this changed dramatically and brought him into the top 10.
Which champion is it? This is Skarner, who has statistically had the lowest pick rate among players recently. However, that has changed today, as with the new patch 14.7, the champion even made it to 7th place among the most played champions (via op.gg)
Why is Skarner played more frequently? The main reason for this is likely the new patch 14.7, which brought extensive revisions for the champion. Skarner’s abilities have undergone a comprehensive overhaul:
- With his Q “Shattered Earth,” he tears a boulder from the ground, enhancing his attacks and can be launched.
- Skarner gains a shield with his W “Seismic Bastion” and triggers an earthquake that deals damage and slows down opponents.
- With his E, “Ixtal’s Impulse,” he can charge forward. If he collides with a champion or a large monster, he flings them against the nearest wall, dealing damage and stunning them.
- Skarner’s R, “Impale,” thrusts his spikes forward to suppress enemy champions. Suppressed victims are pulled by Skarner as he moves.
In addition to Skarner’s abilities, his skins have also been adjusted.
How is the rework going? So far, the new changes do not seem to be entirely convincing. According to the statistics page U.G.G, Skarner currently has one of the lowest win rates in the entire game at only 39.03%.
This means that the developers may be forced to make some adjustments very soon to keep the champion more attractive for players.
What other changes are there? The lore of Skarner has also been revised. Riot aimed to create a cohesive narrative for all of Runeterra.
In a YouTube video with the lead writer of LoL, Skarner is known in Ixtal as one of the oldest and founding members of the ruling caste, the Yun Tal. The champion hears “Whispers,” which urges him to end the isolation of Ixtal, putting him in a state of paranoia.

Reactions from the community: Riot’s reinterpretation of the Brackern lore has received mixed feelings from fans, particularly regarding the connection to the origin of Hextech.
One of the main criticisms from the community is that there are still too many unanswered questions. For example, user “meshgate6836” states that there are still open questions regarding the Hextech aspect and it would be a good idea to answer some of these questions in… I don’t know… some sort of developer blog
