Riot Games has announced that they are bringing a new item to League of Legends. The “Hullbreaker” is intended for split pushing in LoL. The first professionals are sure: the item will mean a big change for LoL.
This is the new item “Hullbreaker”: The item “Hullbreaker” is coming with Patch 11.13 for the current item “Sanguine Blade” to LoL. The item “Sanguine Blade” (Blood Blade) was introduced in 2019 in LoL and was so strong at that time that it was nerfed immediately.
The item “Hullbreaker” is primarily a defensive item, providing 400 health points and 150% base health regeneration. Additionally, it grants an extra 50 points of attack damage.
The crucial ability is “Boarding Party”: When no friendly champion is nearby, the bearer gains more armor and magic resistance, and deals 20% more damage to turrets. Furthermore, “large minions” also gain more armor and magic resistance, dealing 200% more damage to turrets.
Item is meant to make LoL more exciting and strategic
This is the purpose of the item: The item is clearly designed for “split pushes”.
In a “split push” in LoL, a single player separates from the rest of their team and tries to destroy the opponent’s towers unnoticed with the help of their own minions while the rest are tied up elsewhere.
If a “split push” succeeds, it is referred to as a “backdoor play” – someone sneaks in through the backdoor into the opponent’s base and steals the victory.
Three months ago, in March 2021, the mastermind of LoL, Scruffy, talked about “split pushes” and how they wanted to enhance these strategic plays because they find them exciting. However, in the current LoL, they hardly appeared:
The new item “Hullbreaker” is apparently intended to enable split pushes.
Players on the test server have already had the opportunity to test the item extensively.
This is what the professionals say about the new item: The site Inven spoke with several active LoL professionals, junglers from US teams. They believe that the item could significantly change the meta of LoL, especially among professionals:
- Jungler Spica (TSM) says: “I saw it on the test server and I think, if it really comes out like this, it will be a huge, huge change in professional play. The item is really strong and will change the way teams draft and play.”
- Also jungle talent Dardoch (Dignitas) says the item will have a big impact. However, he doesn’t know yet who will play it. He thinks it’s not for junglers.
- Closer, the jungler from 100 Thieves, also believes the item will have a significant impact on the game. He already thinks it seems “broken”, too strong. He believes Hullbreaker will at least influence the meta on the top lane and push LoL more towards “split push”.
We had a very interesting story with Dardoch in 2019: He was supposed to save TSM back then. Spoiler: It did not end well. Dardoch stayed only half a year with TSM before he was replaced by Spica.
LoL: The largest team in the USA places all hope in a wonder-kid with problems
