The LCK 2023 Regional Finals for League of Legends are coming up in Korea, to determine the teams that will participate in the Worlds. T1’s Faker, the key player for the team, received a death threat, prompting increased security measures for the tournament.
What happened? On August 10, an anonymous death threat was posted on the Korean forum DC Inside. The user allegedly threatened to go to the team’s dormitory and harm him with a weapon.
As seen on Twitter, the police were also stationed there to oversee the situation and ensure the safety of Faker and the other players. According to a Korean report, the police have identified the author of the threat through the IP address and plan to apprehend him.

How does the LCK respond? The officials of the LCK responded one day later and stated on Twitter that they will increase security measures for the playoffs and finals due to recent threats of violence. You can check out the post with more detailed information here:
At the Regional Finals, it will be decided which 2 teams will represent the Korea region at the Worlds. Therefore, such a threat can significantly affect the players’ performance. Especially for T1, who had issues a couple of weeks ago due to Faker’s injury:
