Riot Games Korea has imposed a penalty on Kim “Canyon” Geon-bu in League of Legends: The jungler was the MVP at the LoL Worlds 2020 and is considered one of the best players in the world. He has now received a 30-day ban and is to pay a fine of approximately 218 Euro.
This is Canyon:
- The 20-year-old South Korean is the jungler for the team DWG Kia, the world champions from 2020.
- At the LoL Worlds 2020, Canyon dominated the jungle with carry champions like Graves. He was named Finals MVP. He is again in top form in 2021 and has qualified for the World Championship with DWG Kia, where he is considered one of the top favorites to win the Worlds.
- Canyon is regarded as the best jungler in the world right now and is among the “Top 5 LoL players” overall. In power rankings, he appears alongside mid laners Doinb, Chovy and Showmaker, and ADC Viper in the top 5.

What is he being punished for now? Riot Games Korea punishes him for “account sharing.”
On October 4, DWG Kia uploaded a video on YouTube where Canyon played a ranked game in LoL with another account. The video has since been deleted.
It is forbidden to play with another player’s account, as it circumvents the matchmaking in LoL, which is intended to ensure that players compete against “approximately” equally skilled opponents.
DWG Kia states: They thought the rules against account sharing applied only to ranked games. They allowed Canyon to play on the account of the content team to protect his personal information and prevent his matchmaking ranking from being disrupted.
These are the penalties: Riot Games imposes the following penalties:
- DWG Kia must pay 2 million Korean Won – about 1,453 Euro.
- Canyon must pay 300,000 Won (218 €) and access to his account will be suspended for 30 days.
According to the rules, this is a relatively low penalty for Chovy: The penalty for account sharing can be up to 12 months. They decided on the mild penalty of 30 days because he only played with a foreign account once.
However, since Canyon is currently in Iceland preparing for the LoL Worlds, he will likely notice little of the ban, as he is not playing on his personal account at the moment but is using an account provided by Riot.
The penalty will have no impact on the LoL Worlds, except that Canyon will likely be teased about it by everyone.
