The South Korean Cho “BeryL” Geon-hae (26) is a huge anime fan, a friend of gacha games, and coincidentally one of the best and most successful players in League of Legends. In 2022, he became world champion in LoL for the second time and can therefore design a champion skin as he wishes. He chose his favorite waifu from Honkai Impact as the new skin for the marksman Ashe.
Who is BeryL?
- BeryL played third fiddle for the Korean team DAMWON Gaming from 2017 to 2021, which rose from nobodies to world champions in just a few years. He was the supporter alongside the brilliant midlaner Showmaker and the deadly jungler Canyon.
- When BeryL and DAMWON Gaming became world champions in LoL in 2020, he spent $7,000 of the prize money on Genshin Impact. He simply loves anime girls.
- In 2022, he surprisingly became world champion again, as part of the underdog team DRX, defeating T1 with Faker. And again, he was captivated by anime girls.
In 2020, BeryL smuggled his waifu from a Japanese action game into LoL
This skin was chosen by BeryL in 2020: World champions in League of Legends enjoy a special privilege: Riot Games asks them which champion they would like to have a special skin for. They should choose a champion they feel connected to.
In 2020, BeryL chose the heroine Leona and wanted a skin inspired by the gacha game “Princess Connect Re: Dive”. He had his favorite waifu “Saren Sasaki” designed as a skin.
BeryL loves the Japanese action game so much that just minutes after winning the championship in 2020, he had already announced the victory to his community there.
Now he brings his favorite waifu from Honkai Impact to LoL
This heroine he chooses in 2022: For 2022, BeryL has now chosen another anime girl: He had a skin made of the heroine Elysia from the game “Honkai Impact” by Riot Games. She now serves as the basis for a new skin of the heroine “Ashe”.
Already in November 2022, he shyly asked the design team of Riot Games if they could also create a character based on another game. And they could.
Actually, Ashe is not a classic supporter but an ADC: However, she has also been played as a second character in the bot lane in recent months.
What do the fans think? As the site Dotesports reports, opinions on DRX Ashe
are divided, but generally positive.
Some fans are excited and want to download League of Legends just because of the new Ashe.
Others, on the other hand, are unhappy that the supporter BeryL has actually chosen an ADC heroine with “Ashe”. They would have preferred a new skin for a classic supporter. But well, there is always something.
