With the Pre-Season 11, Mythic Items were introduced in League of Legends. One of them, the Moonstone Renewer, was long considered one of the worst items. However, in recent weeks it has gained great popularity, even in unusual positions.
What kind of item is this? The Moonstone Renewer is one of the new Mythic Items and is primarily intended for supporters. It provides useful base stats and a special effect that heals allies in team fights:
- 40 Ability Power
- 200 Health
- 20 Ability Haste
- 100 % Base value for mana regeneration
- Grace of the Stars: When you hit champions in combat with attacks or abilities, you heal the most wounded nearby ally for 70–100 health (depending on the level of the ally) (2 sec cooldown). With each second in combat with champions, this heal effect increases by 12.5 % (up to a maximum of 50 %).
- MYTHIC, Passive: Grants all other legendary items 5 ability haste.
- Cost: 2,500 Gold
The item was even considered too weak at the start of Pre-Season 11. On Reddit, there were several threads where criticism was raised.
However, in recent weeks, opinions about the item have changed significantly. Although there has been no buff for it, it has suddenly gained great popularity. And not just among supporters.
Strong Healing Effects and Good Combination with Other Items
What has changed? Over time, players have realized that the healing from the Mythic Item can indeed be strong in team fights.
The Moonstone Renewer passively heals often 2,000 health points or more during a fight and appropriately always hits the allies with the least health.
Additionally, the item is often used in combination with the Staff of Flowing Water.
What kind of item is this? The Staff of Flowing Water is another useful support item:
- 60 Ability Power
- 10 % more healing and shielding power
- 100 % Base value for mana regeneration
- Passive: When you heal or shield an ally, you and the ally gain an additional 15% movement speed and 20 – 40 ability power (based on the target’s level) for 3 seconds.
- Cost: 2,300 Gold
The two items synergize so well because suddenly even characters who have no healing and shielding in their abilities can activate the effect through the Moonstone Renewer.
Moreover, for a total of 4,800 Gold, you get two strong items that provide a total of 100 ability power + an additional 40 AP through the passive effect, mana regeneration, health, and many other bonuses.
Due to these strong stats, the combo is even suitable for solo laners in the mid or top lane.
Moonstone Renewer is Used on All Lanes
Where is the item used? The Moonstone Renewer can fundamentally be used on all supports that include healing or shields. But that is not where its usefulness ends:
- The two junglers, Nidalee and Lillia, need mana, ability power, and are often involved in fights. They particularly benefit from the item.
- In the mid lane, champions like Orianna, Anivia, or Heimerdinger can use it.
- In the top lane, AP champions like Teemo or Singed can be strong AP tanks for this item.
- Even Senna as an AD carry can build the Moonstone Renewer.
The streamer and analyst Nick ‘LS’ de Cesare, who was supposed to train the Korean team T1, has compiled a list of champions that he believes can utilize the item and even dominate with it:
What is special about the combo? The combination of Moonstone Renewer and Staff of Flowing Water becomes better as more champions build it. Because the healing effect and the additional ability power can come from all players.
This is especially good if you start alone in ranked matches and do not know what your teammates are doing and what items they are building. Moreover, no nerfs are planned for patch 11.2, which will be released on January 21.
With 11.2, however, the first new champion for 2021, Viego, will appear. Additionally, more champions have already been teased:
