League of Legends is known for its toxic community, and Riot has been trying to address the problem for years. A player on Reddit completely turned off the chat in LoL for 6 months and reports nothing but positive experiences. He suddenly had more success and also more fun in the game.
League of Legends has had a problem with toxic players since its inception, like many other major online games. To mitigate the problem, Riot is trying a lot. This year, for example, they are trying to ban toxic players from the most popular mode.
A frustrated player now describes in a Reddit post how he has significantly more fun and success in the game away from the report system, all because he simply turned off the chat for 6 months.
What I got back are 1000LP and fun in the game
User Mahazzel posted on Reddit his experience of playing for 6 months completely without the in-game chat. Right in the title of the post, it is clear how positive it was for him. According to his own statements, he achieved 1000 LP and, perhaps most importantly, more fun in the game.
This season he had no success in his ELO for the first time and wanted to take drastic steps by completely turning off his chat. At first, he had concerns, as he expected a tactical disadvantage without communication with his teammates, but he did it anyway and found out: You don’t need the chat.
- He was stuck in the Emerald rank, but without chat he even reached Master with 200LP, the highest rank of his career
- He notes that for the majority of the game time, the chat is used only as a frustration outlet, whether for oneself or for other players
- Explaining something to other players or even criticizing them is just a waste of time, energy, concentration, and burdens one’s own mood
At the end of his post, he states that League of Legends without chat is a much better experience for him, both in gameplay and for his enjoyment. He can only recommend it to everyone.
