The most successful German Twitch streamers in League of Legends like NoWay, Tolkin, or Broeki all play in one team: NNO Old. However, one of their teammates, Agurin, recently had a nasty outburst. This has led to critical questions in the LoL community.
What kind of outburst was it?
- The best player of NNO is Muhammed “Agurin” Kocak (28). He is a jungler and one of the best SoloQ players in the world, at least in the eyes of his teammate NoWay who knows a thing or two about it.
- Agurin fell into a language in a stream in English that is generally considered a complete taboo and is usually heavily sanctioned: He told an opponent to take their own life.
- This was sarcastically condemned on X in a tweet as “This is normal & appropriate behavior for one of the largest German League influencers.” The tweet reached 1.2 million views and caused outrage.
He is generally considered one of the worst flamers in LoL – but the German streamers from NNO are actually the “good guys”:
Friends of the streamer are being held accountable and are expected to make a statement
That was the problem: Agurin is a member of NNO. This team holds a special status in Germany as it consists of some of the most prominent Twitch streamers in the country. Many of them were once professionals but decided to earn their money as Twitch streamers. In 2022, the “retirement team” had an incredible run in the 2nd German league.
Some members of NNO unofficially hold “important roles” in the German LoL community, are connected with Riot Games, and generally enjoy a good reputation:
- NoWay is the biggest LoL streamer in Germany and was even at times the biggest worldwide. The 31-year-old is a reasonable and level-headed guy who is highly regarded in the scene.
- Tolkin (26), top laner, speaks incredibly fast as a caster and is a passionate Faker fan, has exclusive rights to co-stream the LoL league LEC in Germany. This is probably the biggest privilege a streamer can have.
- Broeki (33), the bot laner of NNO, is also quite a reasonable guy – he collaborates with Eintracht Spandau and HandOfBlood as a content creator. Recently, his girlfriend got him into trouble.
NNO comprises 5 of the 7 largest channels for LoL on Twitch
Throughout the year:
- NoWay ranks 1st in Germany for watched hours in LoL on Twitch
- Tolkin ranks 2nd
- NNO Prime ranks 4th
- Broeki ranks 5th
- NNO’s supporter, Karni, ranks 7th
Agurin would technically rank 3rd. However, he now streams in English and thus falls off the list.
People on Twitter are now demanding statements from NNO, asking them to distance themselves from Agurin or at least make a statement.
This is how NNO reacted: Tolkin stated essentially: That is indeed a problem. However, there is a double standard being applied here. In the English-speaking community, this tone is common, only in Germany is it an issue. Nevertheless, Agurin must apologize for this (via Twitch)
Broeki said on Twitter somewhat annoyed that he does not want to give the “mob” any more fodder. They are annoyed that there are threats to involve friends and sponsors in the conflict. While he does not defend Agurin, he does not want to provide content for “drama-hungry little fuckers”.
NoWay explained Agurin’s outburst by referring to the poor state of LoL, noting that many are frustrated and therefore things happen in the heat of the moment. However, he demanded that LoL players should hold back even in the heat of the moment: One can call people “Doofkopp” (dummy), but when it comes to statements that their lives are worthless – that is unacceptable for NoWay. One never knows what kind of situation the other might be in and how such statements can affect them.
As a streamer, one has a responsibility for their reach. This will be addressed internally at NNO.
Agurin asks for forgiveness
This is how Agurin reacted: Agurin apologized in a tweet today. He crossed a line here. This is completely unacceptable. In the English-speaking community, such insults are normalized, but it should never become normal.
He will work on his behavior and his language.
NoWay explains the current tense atmosphere in LoL by pointing to the poor state of the game that causes a lot of frustration. Nerves seem to be frayed. NoWay himself seems to be fed up with League of Legends lately: “If nothing changes, I’m out” – is NoWay leaving LoL soon?
